Horn Felt Questions for Sparton horn:
My Sparton horn was apart when I got my "new to me" Model A pickup. I have looked over the drawing and it looks like I am missing some parts needed to put the horn back together again. Apparently the Dust felt is missing at the adjustment screw and the upper oiling felt below the adjusting bar. (See attached photo). Someone mentioned going to a local fabric store to replace the felt, but since I do not have the original ones, I have no idea as to their size to do this.
Someone posted a link to Restoration Supply Company and they happen to have white felt listed on p. 45 of their catalog. Can someone tell me what size I would need for these two different felt washers in order to make my own replacement parts and get this horn back to working properly? White felt: This white medium density soft felt is very resilient and ideal for lubrication wicks, grease seals and wipers. Temperature range is -80 to +200 degrees. Sold and priced by the square inch. Thickness. 1/8" GAS066 $0.30 sq.in. 3/16" GAS067 $0.50 q.in. 1/4" GAS068 $0.50 sq.in. Do I need to order a combination of the sizes above? Sorry, but I just do not have an original felt piece to guide off of. Last edited by coupe1942; 07-12-2016 at 09:28 PM. |
