The caps are identical. Each plug wire terminal is numbered 1-4 and 5-8 on each cap, depending what side of the engine you are wiring. I suggest you go back and make sure you have the wires in their corresponding terminal. If you do the caps will line up properly.

Another tip is sometimes the reproduction caps are a tight fit to the housing. You can lightly file some off the edges off of the caps so that they fit in the distributor housing easier.

1-4 (1 being closest to radiator) is on the passenger side of a US built Ford for domestic sale. As a bit of trivia, our flatheads are if not the only, is one of the only V8s where #1 is NOT the farthest forward cylinder.
