effectiveness of fitting to lube rear wheel bearing
There has been a lot of discussion in my club group about how effective the grease fitting is for the rear wheel bearing. Both sides are strong saying a) hand pack is good for many years and the "zerk" just does not get the job done, most goes past the seal b) Henry designed it this way and the job gets done saying they have pumped twice on that "zerk" each time they lube the chassis for many many ears. I can't find anyone who really knows the truth. Just how reliable is that grease seal and for how long? Personally I've been pumping two shots for over 30,000 miles and no hand packing. Am I the exception, or the rule?????

Re: effectiveness of fitting to lube rear wheel bearing
Overs the years STUFF can happen. The passage can plug up, the housing could be turned with a sleeve installed. Both of which could stop the grease. Then, there are those that would keep pumping on that gun and fill everything with grease.
When it comes right down to it, both camps are right. If you're able to use the grease gun, that'll work. If you wish to clean and pack the bearings every now and again, that'll work too. |

Hi James For the rear axle brg "lube" system to work you have to have good axle's seal's..I think the original's were leather & even on a low mileage car they're probably gone... I tried the grease fitting with new seal installed (axle in place) & the grease did come out at the end of the brg race... Greg out West, |
