Question Thinking of spring in NJ and radiators......

The snow is on the ground outside but spring will be here in about 3 months, can't wait. I've been thinking about what to put in my radiator this year. Is there any point in using distilled water? What about rust preventatives or antifreeze? In the past I've only used tap water but the engine and radiator are newly restored so I'm thinking be pro-active.

Hey, thanks for all the information. No one seems to have anything to say about rust preventatives, maybe because the 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water makes it not needed?

As you might have found in the links...
Rust-prevention:
Antifreeze will prevent and
Distilled water will prevent (better than "just water")

Anti-freeze usually has corrosion-inhibitors ( anti-rust compounds) in it.

And if you're running water (distilled, or otherwise, without anti-freeze), you should add a can of "Rust Inhibitor and Water-Pump Lubricant". (Believe Solder-Seal makes it.)

I run 50/50 Ethylene-glycol (green) anti-freeze in all my vehicles, with no ill effects.

premix - 50/50 water/antifreeze, never an issue
