Cleaning radiator and block
I have heard of putting white vinegar in the radiator and running it for few hours and then draining it.Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Thanks in advance Jim
PS. This is for a 31 A that has sit up since 78. |

Re: Cleaning radiator and block
I have done the vinegar trick. Only I did it for a week and ran the car a number times.
It worked good. Be sure to drain it same were the rust stains will not matter JB

Re: Cleaning radiator and block
It's been discussed a few times on here. I put it in my radiator and left it in for a week. Suddenly, I had two pinhole leaks. I would only do it for a couple of hours. Actually, Putting some phosphoric acid (Coca cola) in would probably be more effective at rust removal. I'm not advising this, I've never tried it. But Phosphoric acid seems to be the basis of all rust removal products.

Re: Cleaning radiator and block
After your acidic treatment of the cooling system, I would want to neutralize that ACIDIC treatment! If my block was rusty I would rather use Evaporust. Sealing off the inlet, adding Evaporust in the outlet and leave it in for a couple days. Evaporust is not Acidic nor a base, it will not harm good metal only the rust ! I have not done this to a block, only to smaller parts like cast iron carbs and such with great results !

Re: Cleaning radiator and block
What ratio of water to vinegar did you folks use, or was it straight vinegar?
only 4-5% acid in a bottle of vinegar just pour the bottle-s straight in! |
