Re: New steering wheel
Unless I'm missing something, the shadow is caused by an uneven surface. A sanding block will bring the two surfaces even, where your hand or finger will not.

Re: New steering wheel
Sand, fill, or finish. I think those are the only options I know of. Maybe the line is due to manufacturing methods. Seams are usually proud of the cast part.

Re: New steering wheel
A sanding block will only work on the outside surface of the steering wheel. It will not work in the hub area. Nor will it work on the inside surface of the outside ring.

Re: New steering wheel
You make me think I will shop for a good used original rather than tackle a new reproduction. I would not have been pleased to receive a product in the condition you describe. Did you complain to Snyders? Wayne

Re: New steering wheel
The shadow that I described, is a manufacturing issue. No amount of sanding would remove this imperfection. I have sanded many, many, many hours. I am following the instructions provided by Larry. When I put on the first coat VHT paint, the steering wheel jumped with fantastic beauty. The steering wheel is smooth as glass!!. No manufacturing issues are now visible. I put the second coat on as directed by Larry's instructions. The steering wheel in now set aside, curing sort of. It is becoming very hard. We I install the steering, it will look so professional!! WOW!
If individuals get repro steering wheels from the supply houses, I sure do recommend this restoration method. |
