Default Rod Wade - A Hero to admire

So WHO is Rod Wade?

My voyage of discovery started with the back cover of Snyder's 2015 print catalog, where a well decked out 1930 Tudor Sedan was pictured. The caption included "Peking to Paris". Well, that peaked my attention and I began to dig further into this intriguing story.

For those of you who believe that the Model A is just for parades and weekend outings, I would suggest that you to begin a quick look into who Rod Wade is.

Aussies do not get extra points for an early lead into this discovery!

WOW - what a story. I laughed because I am a novice and have not driven my Roadster over 15 miles one way from my garage just in case I have to tow it home. Guess Lewis & Clarke or Rod would not want me as a side kick......lol Thanks for sharing his story!

Been there, done most of that outback stuff.
I've posted videos on this site of lots of those trips both here and in NZ.
Hope this works! I have to say here that this is not me.

The web page makes him seem like Steve Irwin's brother.

This should be do-able in an old car. Of course Rod would summit the 1113 sand dunes of the Simpson Desert.

Apart from the dust, Birdsville has a bakery with camel pies.

Rod Wade is also known as the Vintage Adventurer and has a web site, www.vintageadventurer.com.au He has a true passion for the model A and really puts them through the paces! In 2016 he ran a 4-door model A in the Peking to Paris rally. In 2015 I was with him running from Steep Point on the west coast of Australia to Byron Bay on the east coast crossing all 5 deserts! This past year I also accompanied him from Cockle Creek in Tasmania to the furthest point north at Cape York running the Telegraph Track. Look him up on Facebook, you'll see a lot of adventurous photos! Don Snyder

Updraught, we actually did cross the 1113 sand dunes in the Simpson and made it up Big Red. Our goal was to reach Birdsville in time for the Birdsville Races but we were a day too late! We got into Birdsville around 9pm and ended up camping in a field just outside of town that night. Don Snyder

Thanks Don.

I'm still on the mailing list for the Peking to Paris. I think a couple of years ago the entry fee was $43,000 of our dollars. They say they have never left anyone behind, which is comforting...

For anyone interested, there was a TV series made in 2005 and shown here about the original Peking to Paris recreation (as close as you could get). It is well worth seeing. There is also a nice coffee table book. One of those taking part was cartoonist Warren Brown.

Yep, you are preaching to the converted. We Aussies are an adventurous mob. We, (wife and I) have completed several major trips across, through and around Australia and there are quite a few others who have done the same. Here is a list of our major journeys.

4,700 km 2001 to our National capital, Canberra
2,500 km 2002 Model A Ford National Meet, Toowoomba
13,400 km 2004 " " " " , Perth
2,200 km 2005 Display of Yesteryear, Brisbane
10,500 km 2006 Model A Ford National Meet, Adelaide Return Via Darwin
4,275 km 2008 Model A Ford National Meet, Bathurst
7,924 km 2010 Model a Ford National Meet, Launceston
4,235 km 2012 Model A ford National Meet, Ipswich
13,378 km 2014 Model A Ford National Meet, Busselton
13,959 km 2016 Model A Ford National Meet, Darwin/Around Australia

Driven all the way and only saw the back of a truck once in 20 years, 180 km from home

By my reckoning, that is 77,071 km. Time to change the oil!

Getting close, I like to keep my oil fresh so I change it at least every 3 years.

Makes perfect sense. It was good in the ground for the first 100 million years or so, so what's another year or three? Waste not, want not.
