Intake for Riley OHV head
After over a decade of sitting on the shelf I finally put my Charlie Yapp Riley head on an engine. It wasn't until I attempted to bolt my Intake manifold on the head that I realized that the spacing of the holes for the studs is narrower that those on the Ford block. Mr Yapp informed me that he no longer makes intakes for his heads. He suggested "Routing out" the manifold to deepen the area in my Webber intake to fit the studs. Measurements show that the studs would be touching the manifold with no room to put nuts and washers on the studs.
I am open to ideas. TIA

Re: Intake for Riley OHV head
Back when on Y-Blocks the header tubes were sometimes too close to install hex bolts in the heads. We used allen head bolts to solve the problem. Just a thought. I have no idea how much room you have.
I guess the next best is to cut the manifold you have and reweld it or custom make a tubular intake. |

Id Call Max over at H&H Flatheads. He is a Banger speed parts nut and may have a solution or a lead on one for you. Hope that helps!

Re: Intake for Riley OHV head
You might ask on HAMB. I know there is a guy that fabs banger manifolds and headers, but do not remember name.

Re: Intake for Riley OHV head
You should be able to make your weber manifold fit with a little machining. Yes you can
open up the holes that go over the studs, then you can use an end mill for nut clearance if the manifold is thick enough, mine is. I'll look at it on my Yapp head and see what it takes. For clearance I have used Chevy/Small block Ford adjustable roller rocker arm adjusting nuts as they are round at the bottom and a 5/8 hex at the top and are over an inch tall. They may fit without machining the manifold. |

I believe Charlie makes manifolds to fit his heads.

Hi Chris,
This is the guy that does custom headers, I am sure he is still active, last post was January this year. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16546 http://waccustoms.com

Re: Intake for Riley OHV head
Chris,
How about Red's Headers http://www.reds-headers.net/ Intake - Model A Riley Super Dual larger image Intake - Model A Riley Super Dual $245.00 Port openings 1-1/2" - can be opened to 1-3/4" Comes with bell crank for throttle linkage. He was in Thousand Palms in the Coachella Valley but it looks like he moved to Chiriaco Summit east of Indio. What about Miller Hi-Speed. They are in either Oxnard or Ventura. There are also a lot of Hot Rod shops that could probably build you something. David Serrano |

Re: Intake for Riley OHV head
It has been a long time but I thought the heads were sold with the manifold. Have you looked everywhere?

Re: Intake for Riley OHV head
Hi Chris,
I looked at my Yapp head today along with a weber manifold and see what your talking about. My manifold would work with the mounting holes elongated and using the rocker arm adjusting nuts, or as suggested above you could use a socket head allen bolt. I'll PM you my email address if you want to send a picture of your manifold. I'd like to see how close the "tubes"are to the mounting holes. Dodge |
