Re: ford in Germany during the war
Thanks for sharing, some very interesting information available with in that video. As the owner for two German Ford it is most appreciated that you shared it!!!! Although "most" of the footage did not "match" the years the orator was speaking of.

Re: ford in Germany during the war
I found it interesting that they avoided bombing the ford plant. Henry must have made a deal with the allies...too expensive to rebuild. It pays to have some power

https://www.amazon.com/Arsenal-Democ.../dp/0547719280 if you can get a copy, read it, totally absorbing. Edsel was key to keeping the operation going under suspicion from both governments. |

Re: ford in Germany during the war
I watched the video about Ford/Germany and found it to be very interesting. One of the most interesting parts was that the employees kept the plant running up to the last four months of the war.
It would appear that politics and profits are bed fellows. I recently read an article where-in it was written that Ford gave Nazi Germany a $300,000,000. loan in the mid '30's, of course Ford also gave big loans to England and Japan. On the other hand Armund Hammer, Oxidental Oil made a deal with Soviet Russia following their take over of Russia to develop the Russian oil fields. Of course the Oxidental/Russian deal was all on the hush, hush, little did the common people know that a significant amount of the fuel we were putting in our cars came from the Russian oil fields..

It seems to me, that if they leveled that plant, early on, it would have shorten the war.

Re: ford in Germany during the war
It was not until late in the War that the decision was made to start the saturation bombing of the German/Japanese cities due to the fact that the civilian population was prolonging the war, keeping the war production plants going.
When the U.S. Government ordered the shut down of car manufacturing and the destruction of the machinery for same in early '42, Ford convinced the government to reconsider, his point being that it would take 10 years to rebuild the machines to restart production. Crafty H. Ford had new '46 Fords (warmed over '42's} rolling off of the line within 5 weeks of the wars end. Presenting the first one to President Truman.

Re: ford in Germany during the war
It's probably nothing to do with the Ford factory in Koln. (Cologne) but when asked why they did not bomb St Paul's cathedral in London, A German Flier said, "Why would we bomb our best landmark?"

Re: ford in Germany during the war
Similarly, the Dom cathedral in Cologne escaped damage despite everything around it being flattened.

Re: ford in Germany during the war
Henry was crafty but the Russians got him -Having completely set up a Model A production plant at his own expense in Russia the Soviets just took it over and produced the GAZ
