Can a cam be installed with the engine still in the car?

Yes, but not easily. (Remove rad etc)

It can but it's a lot of work. You'll need to drain the water & remove the radiator, support the engine at the pan, remove the timing cover, remove the oil pan & the flywheel cover at the rear of the pan. You will need to remove the side valve cover & remove all the valve keepers to free the valves to move up & down. Make sure you line up the timing marks on the cam & crank gear & start the removal. You will want to keep track of which lifters drop out so you can make sure they go back with the same valve. There are a number of other things assumed like draining the oil. Hope this gives you an idea of what's involved. I probably missed a few things as well but it can be done.
