$385.00? That's a lot of gas.

The serpentine belt flexes easier than a 5/8" V belt, but the difference is very little on a stock system, where the belt doesn't need to be too tight. It would be more of a difference where someone uses an alternator with the small diameter pulley, which needs to also be tighter. The smaller diameter pulley and being tighter both add to the drag on the belt.

Thanks Tom
I would think a Snyders high compression head would produce more power for about the same money

Installed, no, but removed one from an engine I rebuilt. The serpentine crank pulley I removed was aluminum and the front seal had easily wore a nasty groove in it. Combined with a little fore-aft crank play the wear groove was slightly (0.015?) wider than the seal contact point and the front leaked badly.

If I were ever to install an aluminum crank pulley like the one I removed, I would look into hard-anodizing the seal area. Being aluminum, if you simply cut it down to install a steel shaft repair sleeve there may not be sufficient 'meat' left under the sleeve to have a strong and reliable transition to the pulley.

I'd ask if the crank pulley in this kit was aluminum, and if the seal surface was bare or anodized. If bare machined aluminum, I'd take a pass.

I'm still trying to figure out why they call it a "serpentine pulley system",
when it doesn't serpentine....

Maybe because they use what has become known in the trade as a "serpentine belt?"

True though. Not like my TDI which has a belt with no less than 5 different pulleys.

juke joint johnny, Any belt on any car does NOT make more horsepower, but a serpintine belt might use a tiny bit less of the of the HP the engine does make.

I have the serpentine pulley system and I LIKE it. It has cut down on vibration at all rpms and I don't have to settle that certain sweet spot in tpms. I run at any speed I want without that vibration. I feel it was money well spent.

All, thanks for the feedback. It appears that this pulley system is made by Clings
