Default 1940 Ford truck firewall kidney cover

Hello Forum,
Im re-doing a 1940 Ford truck 1.5 ton 239 ci 8 cyl flathead and enjoying it . I was told my firewall needs a kidney cover for wiring which is missing so i found one . My problem is i cant find the screw holes to fit the kidney cover hole pattern . I was told it goes on the firewall driver side between the voltage regulator and the data plate . The holes are not there...This firewall has not been altered . Maybe this model and year does not have this cover ? I don`t know but i am sure someone on this forum knows if it does or not and maybe can add a good close photo . Any help is good help .
Kind Regards, Otto

The red truck in the picture shows what i know as the kidney bead behind the air cleaner. It covers the junction of the wiring harness.

I think it might be the same as the 42-47. I have 2 extra kidneys if they line up. They were considered really scarce so when I saw 3 at a swap meet I bought them all. PM if interested.

You MAY not have the correct cover for your truck, there are different ones depending on model year.....

As for my jailbar series trucks, all three are the same and the screw holes in the firewall line up. All 3 may be wrong for some other year, but they work on mine.

Hello, When i bought this truck all combined wire harnesses went through a larger shaped hole on the driver side firewall to the right of the data plate which requires C&G ford part fire wall wire loom grommet part no. 48-700731 that i bought and fits the hole . it is cylinder shaped with hole on on end and way open on the other . there are no screw holes near this .

Here is the "non" commercial covers you speak of from 1938-1941 perhaps one of these "May" show a pattern that lines up to what you have?

I have a really early ( Oct '38 ) original USA 39 standard coupe that used a cut-out.
It does not have any holes for the wiring loom cover either.
The firewall is the same as a 38 with the swage in that area which does not give a flush surface to mount the cover.
Another example of Ford using up the leftovers from the previous year ?

Hello,
I stared at my drivers side firewall until i was cross eyed using all of the photos the members have sent me on this thread . There are simply no holes that line up for the kidney cover that i have .There has been no body work there either . I feel this is really odd .....

My 1940 1-1/2 ton big truck has the kidney cover directly below the voltage regulator on the firewall.

My old parts book lists the 91A-14600-A as fitting all the 1939, 40, & 41 cars and trucks with an exception for mid 1941 on. The Mercury P/N 99A-14600 is the different one in those years till mid 1941 when the 11A-14600-A was used in mid production for Ford & Mercury cars as listed. It doesn't list the 11A part for trucks though. This is from a catalog dated May 1941 so there may have been early production types that were not listed due to replacement with later part numbered items. When Ford replaced items, it is common for them to drop older phased out obsolete part numbers from newer publications.

If your truck doesn't have any holes there at all then you may possibly have something that was manufactured in Canada. I have no idea what the Canadian cars & trucks had in that range but Canada did like to do things differently sometimes.
