Brings back a memorie from 1965. I worked at Camp Perry in Ohio with some Army guys.
Sargent Ember finished his "tour" while stationed there. He baught a straight & good running truck just like yours. Tuned it up, painted it with a brush, loaded his wife & child & left for southern Tenn. They made it home without any trouble. LOVE THOSE JAILBAR's !

if it just a chip, you can forget about it. but post a picture of it so the experts can give you advice. 12 volt is pretty easy to do and you can purchase a single wire gm style alternator and an adapter to mount it from speedway. big thing is to convert you gauges to 12v with a runtze resistor for the gauges, I use one for three gauges and reverse direction the wire for the amp gauge to get polarity correct.

Haven't made much progress lately. Went back to work after spring hit. Looking for a place to buy seals and maybe bearings for the transmission.

Check with Mac Vanpelt at vanpeltsales.com for the trans parts.

Too slow with response, great minds think alike.

Pulled the bed off the truck and got it outside after 10 years or so in the same spot. Took it to a shop to have the roof fixed. You can see how bad it was after someone walked on it decades ago. Pictures were from the shop. Going to pick the truck up Monday.

I have the world's largest ball of old extension cords in a shed. That's my 'new wiring harness' whenever I do a 'restoration'. I love the 12 v negative ground conversion. GM one wire alternator on a slingshot bracket. Make sure you get the year correct slingshot. It has two tapped holes for fan bracket. I still like the stock MC. With new hoses, lines and cylinders, it's a simple and reliable system. Looks like you are making good progress. Is the engine rebuilt now?

Engine hadn't been touched 2 months ago when I checked in on it. I'll have to check out the wiring harness you mentioned.

Finally talked to the shop that has the engine. Looks like I'm bringing it back home exactly how I dropped it off. Guess I'll be putting a sbc in it along with a transmission adapter in order top use the original engine unless I can find a good running flathead engine.

Not sure I get this.... Original engine or SBC? Many 'engine builders' say they can build a V8 for this much or that.... Then they price the parts and research the machine work. Get it machined if it ain't cracked and buy a book. That's how I did my first one by myself.

where are you located? I am in SC and do rebuild a few engines--I like to use later crankshafts and rods (8ba) it is a little cheaper to do it this way.

I was wanting the original flathead rebuilt but I can't find anyone in my area.

Picked the original flathead engine up today and brought it home. Haven't had much time to work on it due to work.

I'm located in south central kentucky. Glasgow, Ky

Is there a known problem with the block, or the shop just shoved it in the corner?

Shoved it in the corner. Never touched it. Stayed there exactly 1 year.

I've had that happen, its no fun. Find another shop, you will enjoy the flathead so much more than a sbc
