3.55 rear end ratio
What vehicle was the 3.55 ratio used in. I purchased, what I thought was, a 3.54 set from a Barn member but it had a 32 tooth gear and 9 tooth pinion. It’s a new set and apparently came from Speedway. But they don’t list a 3.55.

Re: 3.55 rear end ratio
I had a set of those. They are made by Motive (Italy) I got them from Baxter Ford in KS back in 2009 and had them installed in a 36 Banjo rear.Worked fine.

Re: 3.55 rear end ratio
The set I purchased (Italian made) was too large a diameter on the wide part of the pinion quil to fit through the opening in the center section. The wide tips of the gear have to be ground down with a tool post grinder to get them to fit but they work fine after they fit.

of the brand new Canadian truck engines available over 40 years ago. Very seldom had to down shift for a hill. I ran it from S W Florida to Phila. 15 or 20 times non stop at 75 to 80 MPH. Only had cooling problems a few times at 100 out side temp and traffic slowed down. I have about 150,000 on it now and sounds and runs good and may use 1/2 quart between changes. With Skips turbine type impellers and the radiator rodded out it runs at 165 degrees. Also with the clean radiator and the power of the coolant be forced through the radiator it looks to me like scrubs the radiator, see pictures. You also need a 4lb pressure cab and a recovery bottle. A larger fan is very helpful. With a cool engine the oil does not get as black. They shipped the engine to me with truck heads they used only for shipping, being new I left them on. G.M.

Re: 3.55 rear end ratio
Ford did use a 3.54 ratio during many of the 'banjo' years. The tooth count was 11/39. No 3.55s specifically! DD

Re: 3.55 rear end ratio
As duece lover states, they are Italian made Motive brand. I'm running a set. The only issue, easily remedied, is the pinion is ground to the same 'press fit' dia where the bearings are located. The portion of shaft that the outer bearing locates on needs to be polished down [I think from memory about .001"]to enable the outboard bearing to just slide...this enables one to correctly set pinion preload.

Re: 3.55 rear end ratio
Originally ,39 mercury I believe . We found a 39 mercury pinion and crown wheel local , just had to cut off the full length pinion and respline it to std. ford 6 spline length.
