Default Hood

The hood that came on my 1930 coupe appears to be a cheap reproduction, but I'm not sure. It is in good shape, ie no rust, but the curve in the top sections do not conform perfectly with the cowl--there is a 3-4" section of wear from the cowl lacing, and the deflection from a correct fit is visible. Also, there is a diagonal flex to the side panels. Are these defects that can be repaired, or should I buy an original good, but rusty, hood from Craigs List?

Borrow a hood from another car to try. There can be alignment issues caused by a bent frame or worn body mounting wood or rubber pads. Not saying that is the case but could be. My hood side panels on my 1930 Fordor flex in a bistable mode. I think punching all those louvers in sides is going to put the metal at the edges in compression, causing the bistable flexing. And I am not sure an original hood would be a perfect fit. But I could be wrong. Ford did a good job producing parts for the Model A.

Form the curved section to fit, the diagonal flex with the side panels probably normal. With the hoods open and a gust of wind catches the hoods can and will warp the hoods.
