Body Conversion Question
I have a 1929 Coupe that I am thinking of converting to a Victoria, Phantom or Roadster with a body swap. If I do find a body for a reasonable price, could I use my existing cowl, gas tank, windshield assembly and just attach the balance of the body? If so, does anyone know of one for sale ? Thanks in advance. Call if you would like: Dennis 248-230-0554

Re: Body Conversion Question
Quote:
Victoria - No, ...Roadster and Phaeton bodies - Yes, if they are 1928 or 1929 bodies. Rear fenders from the Coupe will interchange with the 1928/29 Roadster but not the Phaeton body. The Coupe windshield will not be interchangeable with either the Roadster or Phaeton body. |

Re: Body Conversion Question
The Victoria is almost unique including some brackets on the frame. It only shares parts with the 400A and 180A. There is no way the 190A has any body parts common to a 1929 car.

Re: Body Conversion Question
Between the 29 coupe and 28/29 roadster or phaeton about the only thing in common is the gas tank and instrument panel. Plus what Brent and Bob said.

Re: Body Conversion Question
Thanks all. I think ronn is probably right. Looks like I may be stuck with the coupe. Thought of making a "coupester" but again the issues are overwhelming. Different doors, "B" pillar rework, etc, etc. Thanks again

Re: Body Conversion Question
Dennis, why not opt for a reproduction Roadster body?? Fender and aprons interchange with what you have. Likely the Coupe body has salvage value to offset the Roadster body

Re: Body Conversion Question
Brent also has a good idea with the repro 1928-29 roadster body , I was thinking of going that route, but found a 31 complete roadster, it’s more expensive to buy every part needed like top bows , interior springs ,etc and sometimes the quality of repro parts require reworking .Currently on my project I have to replace the doors, and now working on quarter panels so almost like buying a repro body , never know what you will find once stripped to bare steel .

Re: Body Conversion Question
I know of a 29 coupe that is in the process of being made into a roadster. NOT for the faint of heart if you want it to even start to look OK!
By the way, this is a zombie thread, the OP was last here over 3 years ago looking at their profile.

Re: Body Conversion Question
I did the coupe to roadster swap but that was in the 1960's and I got a complete roadster body, gas tank and all. I don't think it I would do it again today.
