Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
It looks like an old after market attempt at a rear main seal. I had an engine with one in it. It didn't work.

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
To me it looks too small to be a rear main seal...
It has letters on it...can you read them? Sometimes they leak simply because the crankcase is over-filled with oil... 5 quarts in a completely new and clean engine About 4 quarts for an oil change as about a quart is held in the dip tray and won't drain... How much does it leak?

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
When you say it came from the rear of the engine was it in the oil pan
or do you mean the bell housing area? Bob |

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
it was in the OIL CATCH BASIN small pan that fit under the bell housing to keep oil off the floor....so it was pushed out of the block I assume

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
Have you contacted the person that rebuilt it? Shouldn't be leaking with only 1000 miles on it.

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
How did you find this originally? Oil catch basin? What is that? Something you put under the car to catch oil? Then can't imagine it coming out of the engine.

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
It is never good to have parts coming out of a motor rear, side or otherwise.
That looks too small to be a rear seal piece, just my observation. Could it be maybe from trans input or clutch shaft? J

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
I agree that it appears to be a washer for a garden hose. Have you been doing any cleaning using a hose? I would suspect someone is messing with you or it got kicked up off the road while driving and ended up in that catch tray. We had a fireman bought a new car. He was very proud until someone pointed out an oil leak. He had never seen oil in his driveway, it only happened at the station that it leaked, he said. The question was then asked if he noticed a leak when he went shopping for the station. He did. The culprit was a fireman with a shirt can of oil that even went to the store while he was in shopping and created a little puddle of oil under his car. Someone finally confessed when he was making arrangements to have the car towed to the dealer for inspection.

Re: part came out of the rear of the motor
Sounds like the crew that put gas into the new guys car every week for the first month or so, then took some out every week from then on......
