32 to 34 Gurus need Engine ID Help
Hello all ,
I recently bought a 1932 Fordor with a supposed original engine . I am 90% sure the engine is not an original 32 because of various items like petcocks, intake manifold ,heads etc. unless there was some late replacement engine or other reason the engine in the car doesn't have the same characteristics as the 32 engines I can read about in my 32 book. So.... I need some help with what I have please . I took a few pics but I can take more if anyone needs them to help me out . Thanks for any help in advance. Mike |

Re: 32 to 34 Gurus need Engine ID Help
Very hard to tell from your photos, if the engine coolant drain plug is on the side of the block and they extend down and out behind the coolant inlets it appears to be 33-36. The drains on the 32 are on the bottom of the block next to the oil pan and point straight down. If you remove the intake manifold and there is a vent tube in the front of the block it is not 32. 32 Was a non-vented block but so were some of the 33-34 pass and truck blocks.

I believe it is a 33 to early 36 block, likely a 33-4. It has 40 heads which are 34 and the drains are like a 33 up. Looks like a really nice 32. If you are going to drive it, changing the intake to a 36/7 will make it run a lot better.

Nice car!!! The engine has 36 water pumps and the heads are 40-6050B (commercial heads-Cast iron) with a casting date of 6-11-51. Most likely a rebuilt engine.

The other non-'32 telltale are the cavitities in the block between the timing gear cover and the front motor mount brackets.

Re: 32 to 34 Gurus need Engine ID Help
Thanks for the help everyone . I need to clean the gas tank and lines and do a few other little items and them she should be a runner . I put a small gas tank in the engine compartment to see what happen and she started right up and runs really well considering . The wife and I went for a little drive down the street and back . It was very fun . Can't wait to make it an around town driver .
Thanks again , Mike |
