Default Removing rust in the block before

Who has a good way to remove the rust and scale in the block before installing a reconditioned radiator. Years ago there was a screen you could put in the radiator hose before the radiator to catch large pieces before they get into the new radiator. It was for 60's Fords but probably would work for the T. I also thought about pantihose. OR just hook it all up and divert the outflow with pvc and longer hoses and run a hose same deal with a garden hose water supply and flush. Ideas? Experiences?

Thanks ! Dennis

There is a post in the Model A forum about cleaning rust from the block and radiator that you might find interesting.
Since T's use thermal syphon I would hesitate putting a screen in the system

I tried vinegar with only a little success so after numerous web searches used oxalic acid with great success. By the way oxalic acid is a fancy way of saying wood bleach.

Dump in sum iron out. Run engine about, one or two hours. Let it set overnight drain and flush. Refill and run.

After you have cleaned out your block, you can install a gano filter for a while to make sure no large sediment gets stuck in your radiator. The web address is: http://www.ganofilters.com/

On the boats we take a five gallon pail with water and phosphoric acid (wood deck wash) Insert a boats' 12 volt bilge pump hooked up to the water inlet on the block with a return hose back to the bucket. Run the motor till its really good and hot. No load will maybe be 1/2 hour with the bucket full. Let it sit till cool and repeat. Take the bucket at 3 a.m. and dump it on the crappy next door neighbors roses, and rinse the block well with fresh water. Ad some baking soda to neutralize if desired, but not necessary. ws
