Trickle charger

Last time I bought a Battery Tender Junior 12v trickle charger it was different than the first one. The first one had an almost 2 inch square transformer while the latest one has a postage stamp sized one maybe 1/2 inch tall. Both are the same brand. My 6v Battery Tender Junior has the larger transformer. Dear old dad not around anymore so can't ask him.

Latest one a counterfeit or size of transformer doesn't matter?

Just another way of cheaping out. The smaller one will work but will run warmer.
Bigger is better.

If it´s a normal transformer in there at all...most stuff use SMPS...less copper...and less expected life before electrolytic caps blow and you can toss it in the garbage...

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I knew him well.

He lived a very long and productive life, almost 98 years of independent living and died in his sleep of heart failure after only a week in the hospital. Glad he didn't have to go to my Mom's funeral. She had dementia so news of Dad's death likely wasn't a concern. She live to almost 97 YO. What more could you ask?

I have 6 or more of the ones with a digital read out. They are about
7"s long and 3"s square and work very well. G.M.

Tending batteries is not always the best way to deal with batteries. Certainly not with closed cells. Constantly cycling the battery does no good. If you are storing a car/battery or not driving it after a week, just disconnect it.

Just my opinion.

Sounds like originally you had the one on the right end in the top of this pic?
its just a different output size (amperage output), I have several of these and they all work about the same. And for the last poster; we own 7 cars total between me and my wife and all but 2 have tenders on them ALL the time, one car has an old optima red top I bought back in 2007, we drive the car about 6 times a year and it never leaves us . I firmly believe in battery tenders but like everything your entitled to your opinion.

I have a C-tek, but I am not confident using it with an Optima.

Can they be used with an Optima? I have been told they are not compatible.

Can anyone provide accurate info?

I have used a random sample of the many chargers and tenders I have on my Optima's over the last couple of decades. The first Optima lasted 14 years, the second 13 years (I did however, replace the second one before it failed, unlike the first).

I don't think they care unless they are completely dead; then you may have a problem.

plus I run a Ctek on my optima but NOT my car that has an odyssey (my 36 ford) its calls for specific models and on it I run a Schauer approved charger for my odyssey, YMMV

Cycling batteries is not necessary. Disconnect or drive it. Just my opinion. I'm very very happy with my optima batteries.



How many of you have batteries in a drawer. You put a tender on them? I don't want to discredit an industry product either.

i have used the green Battery Tender with my Optima batterys in my cars and RVs. worked well on lead acid batterys also.
