Smile 1948 ford mercury oil pump

Hi,

I have a 48 Mercury with the original 239 cu. in. 59AB engine and oil pan). Does this engine have the "long body" or "short body" oil pump?
Thanks!

Bill in Conn.

Originally from Ford, it had the long pump. If the engine has been rebuilt, the only way to know would be to drop the pan and have a look. Many have been rebuilt and changed to the 8BA pump and truck type screen.
