Oil seeping around pan bolts
I put a new pan gasket on my Model A from Snyder's. The instructions said not to put any sealer on the gasket as that would ruin the integrity of the seal. Also they gave a torque value on this. I have tweaked the bolts several times and still see the bolts (not all of them) wet with oil. I have used other gaskets in the past with a sealer and had no problem. Any suggestions?

Re: Oil seeping around pan bolts
I bought a Snyders and installed it dry and it leaked. I then redid it using Permatex2 and it was fine.

Re: Oil seeping around pan bolts
What torque? Which gasket kit? As I recall Snyders offers two different ones, we only use the cork type so have not really check if they have the rubberized type still. Did you trim the rear cork seal, they come too long and need to be trimmed to fit. The rear cork over the main is the only place that we use any sealer, right at the ends where it meets the pan gasket. I go old time and spread a little grease on both sides of the pan gasket, makes it easy to remove later. Also never payed attention to torque values, just snugged the bolts up. You may have gotten them too tight and pinched the gasket putting a bow between each bolt hole. I would suggest pulling the pan and checking for flatness along the edges.

This article was very helpful when I did the pan gaskets on my Roadster.

Re: Oil seeping around pan bolts
I have the exact same problem. Used the installation instructions found here on the blog, including purchasing the three different kinds of permatex, trimming exactly, etc. That was a year ago and I am still getting weeping. Have tightened the bolts twice and going to do it again. Changing it again is on my "to do" list but WAY down as I have rear end / transmission / clutch out. Had a cracked axle so decided to check everything up to engine while rear end and spring is out. Seems like the rubber gasket may be the way to go

Re: Oil seeping around pan bolts
Some pan bolt holes go into the crankcase area & require sealer on the THREADS.

Re: Oil seeping around pan bolts
I have seen a few oil pan mounting surfaces that had been distorted around the bolt holes by way too much torque wrenching activity. I can see how that would contribute to leaks and more "treatment" by the wrench will only worsen the problem.

Re: Oil seeping around pan bolts
Old cars tend to leak from many areas. They probably did when new.

Re: Oil seeping around pan bolts
Remember, when doing a pan gasket, hang the pan flange on the edge of your bench/anvil/or whatever & break out a HAMMER & make it level & straight!
And especially when using a CORK gasket, it's good to have the area around the holes, a little HIGH. Then that area is NOT immediately putting pressure on the cork & causing it to "squish" out. Continue tightening until that area makes firm contact with the gasket. (Comprende' Vous?) Bill Experienced ****
