Oil pressure ports?
I'm nearing he completion of wiring up my '42 PU, but would like to add a water and oil (electric) gauges as well, just for confirmation...water not an issue, but is there another oil pressure source other than the rear of the block?
I haven't spotted one...or do you folks just "Y" it off and add an electric gauge? Thanks |

Re: Oil pressure ports?
You can use a "T" if you want to keep using the original gauge with the add on gauge.

Re: Oil pressure ports?
Yes...was wondering if that's the option, or if I am not seeing something.
Thanks |

Re: Oil pressure ports?
My '47 merc has 2 oil ports about an inch apart on the back of the bellhousing. One had the old oil sender plugged in it, the other was blocked off. I've heard something about guys modifying the passages inside so you can fit a full-flow oil filter. Anyone heard of how it's done?

Re: Oil pressure ports?
Mike, if you can get the Tee used on '51-'53 V8 trucks, they had the inlet with a flare connection to match the pipe up from the bellhousing area, a branch with pipe thread for an oil pressure gauge, and pipe thread outlet to screw into the filter with an orifice built in. Much easier to get to than the bellhousing area.
66Miles, the picture below shows how it can be done. You have the "Canadian" style block with the extra port. These are two ways to convert to full-flow using those two ports.

Time to buy some books, you'll be surprised at what you'll find out.

Re: Oil pressure ports?
Book is called "How To Build A Flathead Ford V8" by George McNicholl. It's divided into three parts. First is a basic mild rebuild. Second is a blown rebuild (not my cup of tea). Third is an Ardun OHV conversion (definately NOT my cup of tea). He's got some pretty good stuff in there just the same.
