Default Head gaskets for 239 flathead

I have a 39 Ford flathead and I need to know the best head gaskets to use on it and if possible a part number. My parts guy says FelPro only do head gaskets separate from full sets for 49-53 and that other than that I need to order a full gasket set, which I don't need. Thanks!

Use a steel or copper gasket coated with coppercoat on both sides. The soft gaskets will be a real pain go get a head loose from if you have to pull the head again. Coppercoat seals well.

The best gaskets are 'Best" [brand name]. Available individually, from many places including Joblot as above.

Being above the border if I can get a part number I can probably find them up here - cross border takes awhile.

I use Victor Reinz composition gaskets head (VR 2000) gaskets. They have fire rings and a coating that I think is Teflon. They work well but they are not for "big bore" engines. I get them at NAPA; PN 1026K. Ken

If you have a '39 Ford engine, it's 221cid.
Be certain to order the correct gaskets.
You can get just the head gaskets at NAPA. You may have to speak with a counter person that knows how to look in an actual book vs. the computer.

O'Reillys sells the complete FelPro set for $60, only about $10 more than the head set. I've never had a problem on 8BA's with FelPro.

I agree, I have Felpro gaskets on my 49 with no problems. One I even took off and reused shortly after putting it on due to a hairline crack in the top of the head and still no problems.
