Head gaskets for 239 flathead
I have a 39 Ford flathead and I need to know the best head gaskets to use on it and if possible a part number. My parts guy says FelPro only do head gaskets separate from full sets for 49-53 and that other than that I need to order a full gasket set, which I don't need. Thanks!

Re: Head gaskets for 239 flathead
Use a steel or copper gasket coated with coppercoat on both sides. The soft gaskets will be a real pain go get a head loose from if you have to pull the head again. Coppercoat seals well.

The best gaskets are 'Best" [brand name]. Available individually, from many places including Joblot as above.

Be certain to order the correct gaskets. You can get just the head gaskets at NAPA. You may have to speak with a counter person that knows how to look in an actual book vs. the computer.

Re: Head gaskets for 239 flathead
O'Reillys sells the complete FelPro set for $60, only about $10 more than the head set. I've never had a problem on 8BA's with FelPro.

Re: Head gaskets for 239 flathead
I agree, I have Felpro gaskets on my 49 with no problems. One I even took off and reused shortly after putting it on due to a hairline crack in the top of the head and still no problems.
