Default Misfire

I had my car out this past weekend. I had done some work under the car and wanted to see if the shimmy had been “cured”. It did great up to 50 or 55 but started missing and had trouble reaching 60.

I’m not sure where to start.

I just put in a newly rebuilt distributor from Third Generation about 2 months ago.
I don’t have a fuel filter. Skip rebuilt my coil last month.

It has the oe style condenser now. I’ve suspected the condenser for some time as it is very hard starting when hot. I was going to replace the oe condenser with a KA5 from NAPA but then I read somewhere that this was not the right replacement for 18-12300 B?

How can I tell if I have a failing fuel pump?

FYI, I am working on a project where we will put the modern film capacitor we use in our "Big Brass Condensers" into original Ford cases. We plan on doing both the '32-'36 and '37-'41 versions.

Thanks for the FYI. Will they look like the original?

Yep, we will be putting them in original Ford script cases (as long as the supply holds out).

Hey Guys,

I replaced the rubber ball on the wishbone and the two inner rotor caps this week on the distributor. I took the car out yesterday and it went right up to 70 mph with no shimmy and no misfire. It starts easier too.

It’s still hard starting when it’s hot. I have a KA5 condenser that I purchased at NAPA which I was planning to put in, then I got this months V8 Times. In his article “Parts is Parts” Frank Scheidt says that this condenser is for a model A, not right for a V8.
