Engine machine shop in Arzona?

Can anyone suggest a machine shop with flathead experence? I'd like to find one with the ability to pressure test the 8CM, measure cylinder wall thickness, and maybe touque plate. It's a stock rebuild so maybe a touque plate is not neessary? Thanks for any help.

There isn't any tricks to pressure testing.Any shop that does pressure testing can accommodate you. Cylinder wall thickness is another issue.What bore is it now and where do you want to end up at?

It is not really so simple that any shop will be equipped to do your pressure test. The block off plates are unique to our flatheads.

Probably more shops will have a sonic micrometer than pressure test plates. If you are a member of the EFV8 club you can check the roster for members in your area and ask for local references.

JW I should have been more specific of course they would have had to have done a flat motor before. I have called on 100's of shops over the years and some won't be set up for one that old but it only takes a phone call to determine that. In that trading area I am sure there should an older shop that will help him out. Yes pressure testing a block is somewhat more detailed.

Thanks guys. I have two engines to rebuild right now so does it make sense to spend $250 for the press testing kit? I have a machinist I trust but he doesn't know flatheads. I always assemble my engines so with the press tester he should be capable of standard machining. JWL, what do you think?

I have a 1950 Merc 8CM I need to have cleaned, mag'd and pressure tested. I called Morrison and they said they have a two month back log and suggested someone else.

The pressure testing on the casting is mandatory and can be done by any decent shop, same with measuring wall thickness, the block-plate however is another issue. After much "behind-the-scenes" research across the country I haven't found one other shop who has a plate for the Flathead.

We mfd our own plate years ago, knowing this helps with ring-seal on all type builds, not only the Flatties. Unfortunately we are too far away to help with your build. We built the plate as a multi-functional tool. We use for pressure testing, final honing, and pinning the heads/gaskets to the block similar to the SBC's. (See the photos I posted below here)

I wouldn't overly concerned about the sonic test unless you have some previous issue or are going extra large on the o'bore??

Sound more like they just don't want to get involved, those entire procedures all add up to about 1 hour in time for all?? Pressure testing is much more important than the magging.
