Default 1953 F100 Wiring Diagram Help

This is the diagram from an original Ford Truck Shop Manual. I can't find the starter button on the darn thing! Is this an error or am I blind? I haven't traced the actual wiring, but will do this weekend.

LOL, they show what should be the starter wire running thru the ammeter to power everything. What did you want to know? The starter solenoid needs power from the button to energize. So there needs to be power to a 2-terminal starter button, with the other wire going to the solenoid.

Curt
Locate the starter just left of the battery. Follow the wire from the bottom of the solenoid leading to the circuit breaker. You will find the button.

The 51-52 Truck was still using the grounding starter button. Our you sure it switched to a power button in 53?

48-50 used the grounding solenoid; 51-on all used 2-terminal pushbuttons, power-to-energize systems. Where did you get that diagram? The diagram in the 48-51 Workshop Manual also omits the starter button in both the 48-50 diagram and the 51 diagram.

Where are you seeing the button in that circuit Bruce, I can't find one. It has it going through the Amp Meter, which wouldn't work for the Amp Meter either. The diagram looks messed up to me.

Ross, I noticed that the 49-50 and the 51 diagram left it out, but at least it didn't show it routed through the Amp Meter!!!

Not positive on the year, but this is a better diagram. Looks like it is the 48-50 diagram. Here is my take on how it should be wired. The BL/R wire shown on the 48-50 diagram would go to the starter pushbutton on the 53. The other side of the starter pushbutton would connect to the same terminal as the Yellow wire on the Ignition Switch (or any hot source for that matter). The Yellow wire shown on the 53 diagram would route from the CB through the Amp Meter and connect to the Battery side of the Starter Relay.

Note: the diagram below appears to leave out the CB. No idea where these diagrams all originated, but the proof reading on them was terrible!!

That's a 53 F100 diagram, the shape of the instrument panel is 53-55, but it still shows the flat V8's twin temp sensors, which ended in 53.

I don't recall the particulars, but the light switch was used as a major power distribution point on the 53-55's. I think it had fuses or CB's in it?

Thanks Ross, I'm not really up to speed on these later trucks which is somewhat funny as I used the later truck diagrams to design the wiring for my 33. But, I leaned more toward the 56 for a lot of it.

Thanks everyone for comments & suggestions. The drawing is more messed up than any I've ever worked with. I'll trace it out and comment back.

BTW - Are there any sources that give the wire sizes used in the system? I'd like to add them to the schematic I plan on drawing.

Curt

Yes it has a stock starter button at the far left.

The diagram I posted above has the wire sizes on it (post #8). Now the issue with it is the CB is not shown. Does yours have a CB?

The 48-52 manual has the starter button schematic in a different part of the shop manual. Either the starter section or ignition. I don't have the manual in front of me.

The problem is they changed the way the starter circuit works. The ones shown in the manual are the grounded pushbuttons that were used on all of the earlier cars/truck starter solenoids. The 53 uses the two terminal pushbutton that provides a power connection to the starter solenoid. One terminal on the pushbutton connects to a power source and the other terminal connects to the starter solenoid. When you push the starter button you are providing power to the starter solenoid, just of opposite of the earlier years. The early push buttons are metal and the switch itself is grounded to the dash. The 53 push button is black plastic an is insolated from the dash.
