Default Other "builds" for the Model A Ford Engine...

Besides the Model A/AA Ford cars, Commercial Vehicles and Trucks offered for sale, what other items utilized the Model A Ford Engine in their special "builds"?

To name a few were the Smith Model A Air Compressor, Doodlebugs...

Any more that you can think of?

Thanks.

The Gleaner combine used a Model A engine.
Also look into airport tugs.
Also check out golf course mowers.

I believe the Pietenpol, a home built aeroplane also used a Model A engine. I have only seen one once, but cant remember which engine it had.

The early Snowplane used a Model A engine. In the late '50's I knew a fellow that had one.

Model A portable Hobart welder. Wico magneto, Stromberg carburetor/governor. I've used it for welding projects in the past, but haven't fired it up in 10 years or so. This welder can also be used to thaw underground water lines in the winter. Has anyone ever seen anything similar to this? I have not. mike

There is a recreation park down here in this area of Oregon that uses Model A engines to run a small gage railroad.

I have a Westinghouse welder with an A engine.I once saw a carnival ride in a junkyard with an A engine.I know of a sawmill that used one for a planer,he actually bought that powerplant new.He only used the A engine for a few years,he replaced it with a flathead 8 that he also bought new.The A engine is still sitting on the floor next to the planer today. They were used in boats,I just watched the Three Stooges where they sunk the boat with an A engine in it.My uncle had one in a Bay City swing shovel.I've seen a couple mounted on the backs of trucks driving hydraulic pumps for Hopto backhoes.I think those were done by a local dealer,he would buy old trucks,A engines, and new backhoe units.

I have the motor I took out of a dirt pulverizer used on the golf course on Jupiter Island. The machine itself was shot but the motor seems good.

Yes, the Pietenpol (?) used an A engine in their 2-place 'air camper', later they put T engines in their single-place 'scout'. They have an annual gathering of them, some are now 'up-dated' with VW, Corvair and other engines, not sure if up-dates are an improvement or not?

On Long Island they used them to run these, ran salt water through the block, kept the transmission to drive the shaft.they'ed get a year or two out of them, toss them away and get another..

Model A's were used on the narrow guage railways. In our area they were used on narrow guage rails for logging operations. Here's a similar operation I found -
