1940 Ford convertible color
I'm looking for some guidance on 1940 Ford convertible colors. I purchased a 1940 conv several years ago that had been restored and repainted some time back. The color of the car appears to be vermilion red. I can't find any evidence of any other color on the car - under the paint chips, under dash, inside of door panels etc. My question is could this be an original color for the car? Obvious sources such as "The 1940 Ford Book" from the Early Ford V8 Club do not list vermilion red as an original 1940 passenger color. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: 1940 Ford convertible color
If the color is indeed vermillion, those who redid the car used a color they liked, not a color that was an authentic 40 passenger car color. There is a "spring" color called garnet that what you are seeing could be a very poor match, but I think they just used the wrong color. If people aren't going for judging points, they use the color they prefer.

Re: 1940 Ford convertible color
I have a 35 roadster that is vermillion red, while taking apart, there was no way a restorer could have put paint on some places,,I did a little checking ,and some cars that were V red were used by the fire dept and police dept..I traced mine back to the carolinas ,and couldn't talk to the original owner but the guy I got it from said is was red all it life, whose to say different, that's my story and sticking to it. I redid in Vermillion ,looks beautiful.
