Default master cylinder

I just put a new master cylinder on my car. I have one fitting that weeps. is it safe to put a sealer on the threads. Thanks

The threads don't seal on brake lines--the double flare on the end of the tube seals against the female fitting. It might seal if you tighten a little, or there might be a small piece of dirt on the flare, or the flare itself might have a burr or imperfection. Trying tightening first.

I've tightened about as tight as I can get it. I do understand what your saying.

Are sure your fitting is contacting the flare inside the MC?

I'm afraid you are going to have to take it apart and get to the bottom of the problem. Without the dual master we need to be extra careful. I tend to use the tubes they stock at napa as I have flared a few leakers with my inexpensive kit.

I've had leakers and I loosen and tighten a few times(3 or 4). that usually stops the leak.

It is a duel cylinder that I have taken out once already. I'm going to take it out again today and check the flare. I have a feeling it's a bad flare. Thanks for the info I appreciate it.

Yes, not all master cylinders have “Inverted Flare Female” IFF machining. Some use 1/2"-20 and/or 7/16"-24 straight threading. These connections use a copper sealing washer between the master cylinder and the fitting. This fitting will then accept IFM - meaning “Inverted Flare Male”.

Thanks for all the help. I used a different line and flare and it stopped the leak.
