Default Post pics?. . . from computer to Ford Barn?

What . . . is . . . thee . . . easiest, quickest, foolproof way . . . . . to post

JUST /ONLY! a picture, photo, or image when posting JUST/ONLY! a picture,

photo, or image . . . . .

OR, What . . . is . . . thee . . . easiest, quickest, foolproof way to post a

message with the photo! hmmm.

I have tried to post a photo from my computer "My Pictures" folder which is

Windows, Google Chrome, Bing on my aging HP computer!

Note: I do not want or need to go to manage attachments

BECAUSE I have no attachments, and it has so told me a couple/few times!

that I DON'T HAVE ANY; YOU AIN'T GOT NUTHIN ON HERE. QUIT BOTHERN' ME!

NOW, when I try to post a piture . . . just one to begin with . . . I receive

the query: enter your URL.

I, of course do not have a URL because I do not have a website! I just want

to post a picture from "My Pictures" folder! Why is this procedure soooo

limiting! Is there any way to transfer OR copy a picture from My Pictures

folder on my aging HP Windows, Google Chrome, Bing computer?

Thank you in advance.

When you get to the "Grey" matted box where you typed "THIS" post, IF you look at the "TOP" middle of the "dashboard" (Grey Highlighted frame) there is a "Paper Clip" icon. Click on that "paper clip" icon. A box will appear with about 6 or so lines with the word "Browse" in grey on the left and white line to the right "no image selected". Click "browse" and that will give you the option to search "YOUR" computer for the files in which your pictures are saved. Click on the picture you want "Uploaded" and it will upload from your computer. You can up load multiple pictures as you can see. once you have all the pictures you want selected and shown in the boxes LOOK at the lower right of the box and you will see the grey box "upload". Click that box and that will "UPLOAD" your pictures. Once that is done you can click that box OFF at the upper right corner of the that box. I always go to the bottom of the post box when that is done and hit "PREVIEW POST" to make sure everything uploaded as it should of!!!!

*****NOTE***** be mindful of the file size "IF" the file is TOO BIG it will not up load.

Pat Malone
You have to use 'manage attachments' to create an attachment for this site.

Your biggest problem will most likely be to properly size the photo that will be acceptable.

Your photo's are "THE ATTACHMENTS" that you are managing!!! IF you don't have "attachment's" I.E. - PHOTOS, then yea, there is "nothing" to post or that will post!!!

To "post a picture" you must upload the picture to the website as an "attachment". You do this thru "manage attachments". Once you are in the "manage attachments" page/window and have clicked the "choose file" button and selected the picture you want from your "my pictures" folder, click "upload". Once the computer has thought about it and uploaded, a url will appear. Near the bottom click "close window" which will automatically return you to the "reply to thread" window. Type what you would like but the photo will not appear as a visible photo until you click "submit reply" and are back viewing your post in the thread. The picture will appear under your writing/typing as a thumbnail that people can click on to enlarge.

If the picture won't upload when you click "upload" then typically the file size is too large. I find it easiest to email yourself the photo then post the emailed photo as it will give you the option or automatically reduce the picture size when emailed.

The little yellow square with black sun and mountains button which asks you for the image URL is only used to post pictures which already exist online on a web page already. Once you get the above figured and can get a picture uploaded/attached as a thumbnail, that newly uploaded photo now has a URL which is visible under "additional option" below the thread when in "advanced settings". You can then copy that URL and paste into the window after you click the yellow box with black mountains and sun. This will make writing appear in the thread box but you will not see a visible photo until the post is uploaded. This will post the photo "large" and not as a thumbnail. In reality a thumbnail is all that's needed as people can just click it to enlarge or someone will come along and repost large for you.

Many posts on attaching or linking photos here. This is a comprehensive guide from JSeery:

I just posted this as an addendum to "JSeery"'s excellent procedure.

"JSeery"'s post #6 in the aforementioned thread is fine, and will work if the picture is "small" enough (pixel-wise). Where I had my problems when I first tried this was that I would get an error message when the system finally tried to upload the picture. The upload process would fail because the system would consider the picture too large. I don't remember the exact error message, but I seem to remember that it was misleading, and it took me a while to figure out what was actually going wrong.

When I finally figured it out, I set the picture resolution low enough on the camera I use to take shots for the forum so that the pictures always fit. They were still fine for general viewing and would upload directly. The problem is that most cameras (phones, iPads, etc.) are too advanced for use on the forum. Their pictures are just too "good". Luckily, just about everything can be reset for the lower resolution and will produce pictures that will upload. Those of us who (either intentionally or through luck) have our devices set to the lower resolution will never see a problem, while a "Newbie" with the latest iPhone will have tons of problems.

Here is THE answer to your question.
Do you have a 10 year old child, grand child, someone else's child that
you could offer a cookie and glass of milk to come and do it for you ?
That in the easiest way...

Mr. highbeams ..... You do have a sense of humor, and that's GOOD, 'cuz this topic can be frustrating.....until SOMETHING pops, and you finally see the 'BIG Picture'!

Like said above, EVERY picture you want to post is an "ATTACHMENT", whether it is a picture stored on your ancient HP, or a "url" (which is a picture ALREADY posted SOMEWHERE on the WORLD-WIDE-WEB) which includes ANY picture that has ALREADY been posted on FordBarn. A "URL" is just a digital ID for an image.

So...........Whether you realize it or not (yet), "Manage Attachments" will somehow be involved with posting ANY image on the FordBarn. "MANAGE ATTACHMENTS" gives you the access to the PAPER CLIP used to post pictures from your old HP, and it also gives access to the "YELLOW SQUARE with MOUNTAINS" ( ) that you need to post a "URL" from the internet.

Another method that I ALWAYS use is the "POST REPLY" button ( ), located at the BOTTOM, LEFT of every thread. By using that button to reply to a post, or to a thread, it gives you all the tools you will need at the top of the window, just like "MANAGE ATTACHMENTS" or "GO ADVANCED" does. You CANNOT post images without using the PAPER CLIP, or the YELLOW SQUARE with MOUNTAINS.

We're gonna 'learn' ya how to do this, come hell or high water! Keep trying! DD

Pat,
How is it going? Dont get frustrated on the picture thing. I copy and past mine from a storage site called imgur. When they come in as i paste them, they look like text, like this below.

(img]https://i.imgur.com/ejWnmnR.jpg?1[/img]

Then when I hit the post button at the bottom they show up as a picture. (note I removed the first bracket and replaced with a parenthesis so you could see the text. My method is labor intensive. But it works and I have about 7.500 pictures saved in Imgur of my various projects.

Looks like lots of good information has been given to you here. Looking forward to many pictures from you.

Regards,
Chris

Most definitely too large. They need to be half that size or less. The upper limit is a bit vague.

I use the Paint app to resize.

This is a post I made a while ago to use "Paint" to resize.

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showp...1&postcount=16

- right mouse click on the picture on your computer
- Select "Edit"
- Microsoft "Paint" opens
- select the "Resize'' button
- Select "Pixels"

- put in 800 in top box
- Check off "retain aspect ratio" Attached Thumbnails
- Now "Save as" with your smaller picture.

OK Pat .....Here are the pictures that you e-mailed to me. Here is PRECISELY what I did to post them here on the 'Barn.

In my e-mail, both pictures opened perfectly. I saved each picture to "MY COMPUTER". Then, I used the PAPER CLIP ( ) up in the "GO ADVANCED" toolbar to post them here, like we have described to you before. I LEFT clicked on that PAPER CLIP. A window opens downward. I put my cursor on the first gray box at the upper left. Left click on that gray box. A window opens-up showing all the places on your computer where you have pictures stored. On the line at the bottom, I typed-in the file name that I gave your first picture: "33 3W". At the bottom right of that window on MY computer, I clicked "OPEN". Then I put my cursor on the SECOND gray box and LEFT-clicked again. Then, I typed-in what I named the second picture: "33 3W GRILL". At bottom right of that window, I clicked on "OPEN". Now, off to the right of the SEVENTH gray box is a button that says "UPLOAD". Left-click on UPLOAD. Now, you can either click on "PREVIEW POST" at the bottom of your REPLY window to see your pictures as they will appear, OR....you can click on "SUBMIT REPLY" at bottom of your reply window to post your verbiage & your pictures, like you see here. EASY-PEASY! That will get ya two thumbnail-sized pics like below.

But, that ain't no fun! I USUALLY go the extra step to post full-size pics for us old guys that can't see little tiny crap any more. NICE FRIGGEN' '33 3-W coupe!

Now, why don't YOU copy and save one of these pictures to your computer. Then, following the explicit instructions I gave you above, see if you can re-post it here in this thread. FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS Explicitly......and you'll be "In Like Flynn"! It's obvious that e-mailing them to me reduced their size appropriately to post here on the 'Barn. If you start your reply to this post by clicking on the "POST REPLY" button ( ) at the BOTTOM, LEFT of this post, you will have the PAPER CLIP and other 'tools' that you may need right up at the TOP border. DD

I choose a file/pic from my computer. "upload" I click upload.

"Name the url." In a flash that disappears.

What is my url so it doesn't tell me "Do not recognize url".

So I don't even click the second "upload". It's gone!

Hi highbeams,

I think you may have picked the the "upload" check box for a web URL and not the one to upload from your computer.

Hi Everyone, Here's a four minute video I did on how to post a picture. It shows how to check the size of a file, how to resize it with Windows' Paint application, how to post the thumbnail, and how to insert it as a URL/Web Link for a full size photo.

How'd I do? What should I change? When I get a good one, I can start a new thread maybe?

One thing I should have said, when I pasted the image link/url I used the keyboard combination Ctrl-V, I could have right-clicked and selected Paste for another way to do it.

I use an old digital camera, pixel count set low so no need to resize them. Put the camera card in a reader, down load to computer, and I'm done. So easy even a dummy like me can do it

Hey Jeff .....I've just gotta acknowledge MY appreciation for your effort to make that video. And, in MY questionable opinion, it was extremely-well done .....until the very end where you went to actually "insert" the image with the concoction of brackets and "img's", and more brackets and "img's" and slashes. My question is.....WHY DIDN'T you insert the image using the simple 3-click, "YELLOW SQUARE with mountains" method ( ) that several of us have so heavily-promoted here? I just thought that possibly added some unnecessary confusion to an otherwise EXCELLENT video that you put together. DD

Thanks for the feedback.

I used the method I would normally use, the one I'm comfortable with. I see the benefit of the Insert Image button is that it automatically adds the tags before and after the web link so no fooling with brackets.

It should have become obvious to anyone that has been following this series of threads/posts, that there are SEVERAL methods that can be used to post pictures and images on FordBarn. And when one thinks about just how many of us ACTUALLY do post pictures regularly, it should become evident that the process to post pictures IS NOT really difficult at all once one finally sees the light and grasps the process.

By my count, there are at least FOUR methods available to "REPLY" to a post in a thread that is already in progress.

Method #1 - You can simply use the "QUICK REPLY" method which is the narrow window that is always found below the LAST post in every thread. But if you will notice in the top band of that window, the number of TOOL icons available is limited, most notably the absence of the PAPER CLIP that is necessary to post a picture that you have saved on your computer.

2nd Method - Is simply to use that same "QUICK REPLY" window as above, but to also click on the "GO ADVANCED" button BELOW the "QUICK REPLY" window. By Going ADVANCED, you will now notice that you have ALL of the TOOLS available (including the PAPER CLIP) to perform picture-posting, as well as other F'Barn editing functions.

3rd Method - This 3rd method involves clicking on the "QUOTE" button ( ), which opens a window that includes another poster's quote that you wish to make reference to. Importantly though, it also affords the full line of TOOLS across the top of the window to allow posting of pictures from your computer, or as a "URL" on the WWW (world-wide web).

4th Method - This method involves beginning by clicking on the "POST REPLY" button ( ) which appears to the extreme lower left of the LAST post that appears on every page. I use THIS method EXCLUSIVELY (and automatically) unless I intend to use the "QUOTE" method. By using this "POST REPLY" button every time, the large window opens-up with ALL of the useful FordBarn TOOLS including image posting PAPER CLIP & YELLOW SQUARE across the TOP border. Using this button automatically affords the same features that "GOING ADVANCED" offers. Your reply can be as brief as a 3-letter "yes", or a lengthy dissertation with numerous pictures. I just find it so easy to begin almost every post using that button.

ANOTHER Way - There is one more method to open-up access to a thread, and that is to INITIATE a thread by clicking on the "START A NEW THREAD" button ( ) at the very TOP LEFT of the "Early V8 (1932 - 53)" page 1. This method also offers the full range of TOOL icons at the top of window, allowing full picture-posting functions, as well as others.

It is paramount for novice picture posters to remember that you MUST employ some manner of access to the two essential picture-posting icons (PAPER CLIP & YELLOW SQUARE) to make pictures. I personally find that button to be my "go-to" button 90% of the time. Again, it's my hope that some of this may help the new picture posters. DD

Pat....I have clicked on the
POST REPLY" button to reply to THIS post of yours, which was obviously an already-open thread.

Normally, as in this situation, I would have responded to THIS question by first opening with the
"QUOTE" button. I will RIGHT NOW go and answer you with the QUOTE button so that you can see how important it is to acknowledge a question.....so that you understand what I am referring to with an answer. DD

Now, I have replied this time using the "QUOTE" button. You can see your message (question) above, so that we both understand what my answer is in reference to. I TRY to be as concise as possible when communicating. If people aren't CLEAR about a subject, or are not referring to something specific, then who the hell knows WTF any of us are trying to explain. I have no explanation why your clicking on "POST REPLY" brought-up ..."nothing". By "nothing", do you mean just a blank window with all of the icons at the top, or do you mean that "nothing" happened? That is what I mean by using concise answers rather than one-word grunts that EXPLAIN very little.

And here we are, STILL posting all of this in DIFFERENT threads, instead of continuing ALL of this in ONE, continuous thread like I suggested last night.
It's getting frustrating having to bounce back and forth between several threads to try to keep-up with, and to attempt to answer all of your questions concerning a single subject...."how to post pictures"!. DD

"POST REPLY" merely gives me a blank page to make a statement...strictly a blank page to say whatever comes to mind, and with the TOOLS available at the top to post pictures ....IF I SO DESIRE.

For ME, the "POST REPLY" button opens-up a venue to say what is on my mind, post pictures if I so desire, all without having to push extra "GO ADVANCED" buttons, etc. "POST REPLY" is a catch-all button that provides ME with all of the tools or options that I would need to make over 90% of the kind of posts that I normally make here.

DO NOT CONFUSE the "POST REPLY" button with the "START A NEW THREAD" button. DD

In the posting of pictures on FordBarn, it makes no difference what area of your computer ("Libraries") that you have stored the image. YOU are the person responsible for the management of your computer's set-up and capability. The important part is knowing that you have to retrieve that image from the "Libraries" section of your computer when using the PAPER CLIP "Upload" function. DD

Easiest way to do it, at least starting out, is to save the photo file to your desktop. Then it is right there and easy to local.

Actually, it's there in My Pictures and is very available.

After I click Upload, the file and number of the picture fill in the Upload blank space; not the picture. Now the (70 +-) pictures in the file do not load because they are too large.

A suggestion by a member, I've tried emailing a pic to myself to decrease the size for loading. Nope.

Other suggestions by others work for them, but not for me on my Windows 7 Professional. I've sent a couple pics from My Pictures/the file and picture number to a member at his request to see if he would get the two pics and could post. Success! He got the two pics and did the post!

But, alas, not I. I like mysteries, but not this one. Maybe if I disguise my face with sunglasses and a beard hooked behind my ears, I'd fool the automatic mechanism. I could try that.

If I don't try that, surely the Upload will say to itself: Huh! Here he is again tryin' to post those pictures I don't like.

At that point, I'll have to walk out of the room and get the beard and sunglasses looking like ZZTop, hummin' one of their tunes.

If that doesn't work, at least I'd enjoy it. (Every girl's lookin' for a sharp-dressed ma . . . hmmm hmmm hmmmm.

I'm not a microsoft guy but that means you're at least on a computer and not a phone. You have to downsize the image too around 900pxl and a jpg. It can be bigger and the site will do a little work for you. If it is a jpg. Lead a horse to water

It is right there and available, the file and picture number. When I upload that to the Upload blank, The file and picture number fill in the Upload blank space; not the picture, even though in My Pictures file, the picture is there with the picture number.

Back on the subject at hand....YOU trying to post pictures....I am having a very hard time trying to FULLY understand your methods. I've asked you before to try to be concise & serious with your statements and answers, yet you continue to attempt being humorous, and you are very confusing with describing your process precisely. For instance, your statement from above:

"After I click Upload, the file and number of the picture fill in the Upload blank space; not the picture. Now the (70 +-) pictures in the file do not load because they are too large."

First, I have to ask...Are you trying to load 70 +- pictures? Have you YET tried loading JUST ONE picture using the precise procedure I posted several evenings ago? And what is meant by "; not the picture."?

I know that I continue asking you specific questions, relevant to the specific symptoms of your then-current message, and you answer with different rhetoric and more confusion. We ain't never gonna get you headed in the right direction if you can't work with me or the others in more-organized, methodical and logical question and answer sessions. I know that myself & OTHERS have sat down here and spent some serious time trying to help you. We only ask that you try to be serious and focused with your replies & communications with us in this thread. Jeff has taken the time to put-together TWO extremely well-done videos specifically for your benefit. I can assure you that if you will CAREFULLY follow his second video step by step, you should be postin' pictures out the yang by now. DD

Ok Pat. Try this.
Scroll up to the image of the dragster above.
Right click on it.
Select save image as and save it to your computer. make sure you know where it was saved to.
Then click on go advanced on this thread.
Then click on manage attachments.
Then click on Choose file and select the image you just saved.
Then click on upload.
Then click on submit reply.
and Voila!
The reason for asking you to use a known image is because it is of a size that is acceptable.
If you can post an image as a thumbnail as I just have, making it appear full size an optional step but one that I wouldn't worry about for now. Plenty of people here enjoy doing that for others.
Mart.

Thank you. Coop, V8Coopman, DD, I must explain, I haven't posted a new thread lately. I continue to post in my two existing threads.

It would be beneficial to have the onus on Ford Barn itself; to wit, there are all sorts and sizes and methods that people post, or try to post.

The managerie is direct into Ford Barn.

Ford Barn accepts all pictures, and sizes - each and everyone - to 'fix'in order to their post requirements. Ford Barn IS The Ford Barn website;therefore, it is not the responsibility of Tom, Dick, Harry, Mary, Jeri to be responsible for jackin' the size up and down and around; jiggling methods: "This one works for me!"

Accept the responsibility; organize your site as most everyone else does.

Example: This is our All Service service station, but you, the customer has to fix your own flat, pump your own gas, change your own oil that you brought along. We just manage the place.

Anyone else care to comment?

Thank you.

highbeams/Pat Malone.

* If this site was run by the USMC, there would be convincing drill instructors that would drill it in and 'square it away' regarding this picture-size requirement; always accompanied by DO YOU UNDERSTAND, SWEETPEA!???, extremely loud, nose to nose, eyeball into your eyeball 'campaign cover' (Smokey-the-Bear 'hat' but it isn't a hat) below the eyebrows, up in back. DO IT, SWEETNESS! No more of this picture-cutting kindergarten bull- it's OUT! GET IT OUTTA HERE! DO . . . YOU . . . UNDERSTAND??? THERE IS NO TIME NOR DESIRE FOR THESE MEMBERS TO PUT UP WITH THIS. If they had voting rights, you'd be out the door, and this site would cater to its membership as opposed to treating them as children.

It hasn't failed since 1775. Now, that's a method.

Mart:

"Post as a thumbnail." As I have explained. I open My Pictures.

I select the picture with its picture number in the file as is needed to upload into Ford Barn's Upload blank space. I click Upload. I Click the picture in the file to post to wit; The file and picture and picture number. The file and picture number fill the Ford Barn Upload space, but the picture is not there.

Now, that is all that I should be required to do. I gave you the picture, picture number in the file where the picture is located.

Your site, not mine. It is your obligation to receive what I have given you, accept it, do whatever your software deems necessary to accept. It is not my obligation to do your work. Please read my other post this past late hour.

If a person wants to visit you at your business, you have to answer the door or give him/her a key to enter. It is not the visitor's obligation to carry your key. Do you understand? Your business office accommodates the interested party. They are not obligated to accommodate you.

You surely must understand that if the internet ran the internet the way you run your site, demanding that each and every interested party knock on your door the EXACT way that you want to hear the knock. Preposterous.

THANK, YOU.

Pat Malone/highbeams.

Your quote just above exemplifies exactly what I tried to explain of your approach to trying to work within the relatively simple picture-posting process here at the 'Barn. It should be evident, even to those with limited 'worldly-comprehension' and with very little in the way of open-mindedness, that many of us 'mere mortal' FordBarn dummies are able to post pics with much regularity and little fanfare. Your seeming inability to accept and adapt-to this wonderful place we ALL fondly call the FordBarn with ALL that it affords it's members and visitors (FREE, no less) is a shame. MANY thanks to Ryan Cochran, aka "The Boss", for his never-ending efforts to keep us straight, and in keeping the 'Barn running smoothly for those of us who appreciate things as they are. Even though you have been unsuccessful at "squaring things away" with this picture-posting 'drill instruction', this exercise has afforded the rest of us the opportunity to share new and different methods of manipulating & posting images for everyone's enjoyment.

And one last little comment with regard to your latest reply in Post #57....it is "preposterous" that you can't comprehend the difference between a "business" operating on predictable remunerative return for a product or service rendered, vs a FREE, privately-owned internet FORUM, of which you have chosen to take any allowable advantage of, as long as you have acknowledged & follow the posted rules, in addition to keeping your nose clean..........GI-HUGIC difference, mon ami!

Many thanks to Jeff and several others for their sincere efforts herein, and again to Ryan. DD

Sorry Pat, you don't have the right temperament to be part of a forum.
I don't want to be lectured by someone I am spending MY time trying to help.
I won't try and help you again.
Mart.

I sincerely apologize to you, Mart.

I apologize to the Ford Barn; especially Ryan. You are a gracious, helpful site. No excuses.

Truly,

Thanks Pat.
All I can say is "keep on trying".
This is a good site. You'll like it here.
Think not of what this site can do for you but what you can do for this site.
(With apologies to a Mr W. Churchill).

Mart, It was president Kennedy who said that (or similar) and not Winston Churchill. Regards, Kevin.

Hi Pat, just a wee bit of advice, if ya don't mind.

As hard as a few of the guys here were taking the time to teach
you how to post pictures, the most sinsere apology you could
show to them, would be to let them see you post a picture here.

Pick one of the methods, one of the fellas showed you, and write
it down, exactly as they wrote it for you, then follow those great
instructions exactly as they wrote them, and then Post a Picture.

We are all pulling for you to get the job done...
