metal roof
Does anyone know who sells the metal tops used in Model A's. I know I can cut one from another car but somewhere I read about a metal top insert for A's. thanks, Mike

Re: metal roof
I want to ask why anyone would want to do that - but I won't

Re: metal roof
Metal roofs were not used on cars until the technique on stamping deep curves in large sheets of steel was developed. The flat metal roofs on older cars would vibrate and be noisy. That is why you see fabric roofs on Model A's and cars of the same era.

Re: metal roof
Good Morning...My first Model A was a 1930 Coupe and it had been modified with a metal roof. Someone had taken a sheet of tin and cut it to go about two inches outside the area of the roof insert and then made it with rounded corners and then screwed it to the metal roof by sheet metal screws every two inches with all of the slots lined up perfectly. It had been set in caulking and the neat part was that I could take it to the car wash in the early 60's and it did not leak one bit. It always squeeked a bit...but after the car wash it was quiet for a week or so. It was so well done that from even five feet away one could not notice the metal roof...it was painted to match the dark blue of the body of the car...The car had a nice interior and it was not bothered by the addition of the metal roof...most likely the owner was a heating and air conditioning guy and he made the roof and installed it for nothing! Re: metal roof
When I acquired my 29ccpu in the 60's it had a copper roof which had the corners soldered therefore burning the wood underneath I used them as patterns and copied them in oak.

Re: metal roof
A lot of cars survived because someone put a metal roof on them, if they are outdoor drivers then a metal roof works. I took one off of my 29 that I put back original but the unrestored 30 tudor looks like a 1950s car with metal roof and 35 ford wheels.
