28 -31 fenders/doors
What is the difference and easy way to detect a roadster/coupe rear fender from a tourer/sedan one?
Can you mix a 30/31 cowl/doors with a 28/29 roadster rear section? Are the lines the same? What about front fenders/valances? I am thinking of building a glass rod for everyday use and see a lot of various glass body bits on ebay and want to know what will mix. As originality with a rod does not matter, it is what fits is important. Is there a rod forum? I am only turning to the dark side, for an everyday runabout go anywhere rod, that can keep up with highway traffic which my original AR phaeton can not. |

Re: 28 -31 fenders/doors
What do you consider keeping up with highway traffic?
The Model A was designed to run 60 MPH from the factory. Do you run faster than that often? Properly restored back to factory precision the Model A can run with a lot of traffic all day long. A good number of rods are not very good at running highway speeds as they are not engineered well. With making a rod or a factory A it is not cheap to do it right. |

I consider keeping up with highway traffic doing 70 MPH and doing it in comfort, not doing 60 MPH flat out in a car that I am waiting for the crank to break.

There is a break between 29/30 as far the bodies go and I don't think they will mate up easily. You may be stuck with either or.

That's a good way to look at it, Pooch. Personally, I consider any speed over 40 mph overdriving my brakes, to say nothing of the potential body damage in a crash in a car as flimsy as the Model A.

By all means go for it. However choose wisely or you will have a very expensive (due do mistakes) fiasco that can only be described as a "rat rod" at best.

Re: 28 -31 fenders/doors
Thanks all.
What about 28/9 fenders. will they fit a 30/31 body? I think i know the valances are different, but below the body, do they matter if they are? Reason for asking is there are ebay advertised (28) roadster fender set and at another location, a 30 glass roadster body. |

Re: 28 -31 fenders/doors
why rush just get the body year 28/29or30/31 style you want and than look for the fenders to go with it. its going to take time to put it together anyway and if you rush you may just be buying something youll need to sell off later and for less than you paid.

28/29 and 30/31 bodies are completely different. I wouldn't except any body parts to be interchangeable except for maybe the rumble lid.

An overdrive will get you there with a very strong engine. I have a new engine and overdrive and go 60mph a lot but over that and the radiator temp goes too close for comfort above 200F.
