Default A couple of 32 questions.

1, On a 32 two door sedan, there are 3 wooden floorboards plus a toe board. What would these have been finished in?
I wondering if they were low gloss black?
How about underneath?
2, On a 32 Ford, there are two 7/16 bolts that pull the cowl down around the outer perimeter of the firewall. Should there be a spring on these bolts? It was suggested to me that there should be, but I don't remember removing springs when I took the car apart.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mart.

Never saw that on a 32. Seems like when you crank down to help change a door fits it the spring would just flatten, out.

Mart,

Originally the wood floorboards were coated with a black petroleum based preservative and lacked any gloss. I use an ebony stain.

The two 7/16-20 x 2 1/4" hex head bolts at the lower front corners of the cowl were originally used without springs.

As an aside, late in the '32 model year a spring was added to the rearmost pair of body-to-frame bolts (along with a different bolt to accommodate the spring) on cabriolets, coupes, and roadsters to prevent fracturing of the quarter panels at the lower back panel referred to in my earlier note on your other thread.

Just been out in the barn and looked on my cabriolet. There are no springs, just a bolt with a washer and nut. However the last bolt on either side that holds the body to the chassis, do have springs with washers and castellated nuts with split pins. I mean the ones right at the back. The floorboards should be semi gloss black.

Mart.
I think most people know it but floor boards were made from wood crates
Ford received parts in from his vendors. He gave suppliers the dimentions
the cases needed to be. G.M.
