Brokenspoke, I have a ‘28 RPU and I want to “chop” the windshield. My thought was to use the stanchions and windshield from a Deluxe Roadster, is that what you used? Whoever amateur restored my truck 25 years ago used body filler to fill in the stanchion/cowl joint along with the screw hole (I assume that there are screws in there under that filler). It’s a very unfortunate situation as there will have to be some body work done to allow the stanchion swap

Man, comparing those two types of stanchions ain't even in the same zip code. Doing that will give you nightmares!!

To 'chop' the 28 stanchions, you will cut the stanchion right under the stud pivot, and then make your second cut lower down the stanchion to remove however much you removed from the windshield frame. The 28/29 stanchion becomes one fixed unit again after re-welding. The DeLuxe Roadster uses an upper and lower stanchion, ...and the lower stanchion is not even remotely shaped like the body mouldings on the 1928/29 open bodystyle.

Ron Kelly had an extended cab with a rollbak on it and "built" A engine. very very nice. His wife was trying to sell it earlier this year.

Plenty of leg room in this one, especially in the back. I know, it's not a pickup. If anyone is interested, it is on the Orange County Craigs list.

Thank You Brent, definitely not what I wanted to hear but better to know now. I am a bit confused however because you say Deluxe Roadster stanchions will not remotely fit the 28-29 open body styles. Isn’t an RPU an open body style? Thanks

What he is referring to is the fact that there was no such thing as a DeLuxe roadster in 28 or 29.The Deluxe was introduced in the last quarter or 30.Whole different animal than a 28 or 29.

Now I understand, thanks. Are the stanchions on my RPU supposed to be removable? As I said earlier, any joints/seams/screw holes, have been filled. Chopping those stanchions would be well above my tool and skill level.

I don’t remember where but I have recently seen an ad for Ron Kelly’s truck and the speedster it carried.

If anyone has a photos of 1929 pickup with the 6 inch extended corners on the cab and 6 inches removed from the bed I would love to see it. I do not like the idea of shortening the bed but at this point I think it may be the fastest way to make an extended cab truck with any additional major modifications.

Does anyone have photos of a closed cab with 6 inches taken out of the bed?
