Electronic turn signals and LEDs
Howdy boys, a question on LED's. I just installed LED's for front turn signals, I have had them in the rear for several years, and have no other source to draw power other than the small BEEP'er for the electronic signals. Without activating the blinkers, I get a continuous beeeeeeeeeepp from the unit. I am assuming it is because I have no LED flasher installed. It acted the same with a regular 6 volt flasher (Beeeeeeeppp). I am at somewhat of a loss on where to find an LED flasher, other than one of the vendors. I hate to pay $30 for a flasher, and $15 for shipping if I can avoid it. Anybody have a part number for them? I'm stock, 6 volt +ground. Thanks guys!

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
You can add a resister to the circuit that will pull more current needed to operate the flasher.
I have turn signals on my Victoria that is six volt positive ground. I have LED lights for the stop lights, and use the cowl lights for the front turn signals. I put the higher wattage incandescent bulbs from Bratton's in the cowl lights to pull the extra current needed to operate the flasher. Tom Endy |

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
Thanks Tom, I've considered that, but I have LED's at both ends. I know there is a flasher out there, just have to find it.

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
Al in NY, are you 6 volt, + ground? Did you ground the wire? Thanks!

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
I tried the 12v version of the one shown in post #4. Worked perfectly -- until I started the engine. Then it went haywire. Ended up putting the old one back in.

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
I have been using a turn signal control unit in my antique vehicles made buy Turn Signals For Classics for more than 10 years. Their USA made control works perfect, is compact, and provides all the functions needed for LED turn signals, LED brake lights, and assessory LED lights. The control is available in 2 versions, 6 volt (+or-) or 12 volt (+or-). You can use a column mounted turn lever or a hidden momentary switch for turn signaling.
The control has the following functions: turn signaling with adjustable on-time, turn signal remains on while brake is applied, brake light, emergency flasher, assessory lights i.e. cowl lights, on or off beeping. LED resistors and special LED flashers are not required. This unit is truly a plug-n-play device and cost $84. I have my unit velcro mount to the drivers side panel behind the kick panel. I have a momentary switch mounted to the left of the steering column and hidden behind the dash panel. See http://turnsignalsforclassics.com |

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
Seabees: I have a 6 volt positive ground system. And yes I did ground the pigtail wire (ground being +6volts).

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
If you can't find a flasher locally, you will need to add load resistors, one to each side. I used two 2 ohm 40 Watt resistors, which I had on hand. Wire them into the front turn LEDs one on each side and connect to ground.

Re: Electronic turn signals and LEDs
Using resistors works but can be a pain as it involves wiring them into the circuit and also can depending on the load create additional heat. The control I am using as noted in post #9 above eliminates the need to use resistors and special solid state flashers.
