I might make a quick day trip to Chicago to have a tour of this piece of motoring History. Any of our Chicago based Barn members been here?

See if you can do the Motor City Row tour, near downtown, just south of the loop on Michigan Avenue. Also, The Beller Museum is good, Romeoville. Call ahead, as it is a private museum.

The Model A is in a second floor alcove that is not approachable from the lobby. You can look up at the car, which might be a beauty "in person." From ground level looking up it is a 50'er. Anybody's guess.
The wall map is very cool. Unfortunately, it is rendered in cool pastel colors. It does not photograph well.
However, if you are coming to the Chicago Loop (actually CMC is just north of the Loop), a stop at Uno Pizzeria or Pizzeria Due will make the trip a success. You will want to return!

I will surely make the trip....Amtrack is not that far from me, I could go up and return in the same day.
I've never been an admirer of the Art-Deco time era but it's growing on me, seeing this building restored to it's original self is a masterpiece...IMO. Can't wait to see it in person. Wish I could park Sarah in front and take a photo. Chicago should put on an Al Capone Day and fill downtown will as many Model As and others as possible.

The Chicago Motor Club building is a neat place to see but shouldn't be the focal point of your trip. I'd second Motor Row as Michigan Ave as there are still several buildings remaining from the early days of automobiles.

As for Al Capone day...the city doesn't want to further romanticize and glorify violence.

As for Pizza. Malnati's or Pisano's.

Museum of Science and Industry on 57th and Lake Shore Drive has some great vintage cars, trains and airplanes on display, as well as lots of other cool things.

My vote is for Lou Malnati's also, for pizza. The original is in Lincolnwood, but there are others including in the city. I live in Chicago, not the suburbs, and there are many cool things to do here. You may want to check out the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, IL. The collection is always changing, and at less than an hour north of the city, it's very worthwhile. They get Model A's there too, but even if they don't have any on hand when you visit, its a pretty cool place. You could also check out Antique Engine Rebuilding, which handles exclusively Model A engines and parts. There is a ton of stuff to do here, both car and non car. Some of the other suggestions here are good. If you are downtown, shopping at Marshall Fields (OK, Macy's) on Randolph is pretty cool, the building housing what I am pretty sure is the largest Tiffany's glass ceiling in the world, and a very nice lunch at the Walnut Room on the seventh floor.

Thanks for all the info fellas, I doubt if I'd have time to see too many extra places, I'll have to slip in and out incognito because I think I have one or two ex-wives from and living in Chicago. One was Italian so visiting any Italian joints would make me a nervous Moe Greene!!!!!

I think everyone is invited into the lobby but only people with money can go further and spend a night.

Sarah has one of those too.

Get a Chrysler Airflow or a Reo Wolverine as a second car to get you in the Art Deco frame of mind. Watching an old Flash Gordon movie starring Buster Crab always does it for me!

Good idea....as long as they come with their own bank account, Sarah is bleeding me dry with all her jewelry and facelifts!!!!!

The last time I went up to Chicago, I got one of those famous Italian Beef sandwiches, cost me $24.00, although that was with a small drink and a bag of chips!!! Food on Amtrack up and back wasn't much cheaper.

Nope, the joint was right across the street from McDonalds on Chicago Ave.
