I have an interesting bit of trivia that might be of use. When I had the key cut for my '32 the locksmith's machine would not cut deep enough (that is to say the key was too narrow). I told him to put a unbent paper clip under the blank in the machine and it worked fine.

These are the Keys you want for your 34. Others will fit, but are not correct.

In addition to some of these key blanks being sold in the wrong configurarion, as compared to original, they are also being sold in the wrong type of material (not brass) and the wrong material thickness. This could cause a new key cut to either the number code or to a master key, to not work well in the lock cylinder. Also, a steel key would wear the internal brass cylinder pins a lot quicker. I recently bought some new key blanks from Carpenter that appear to be good copies of the original configuration.

O K let's slow down a bit. First you asked if the ignition key and door key "are different from each other". Do you mean the code or shape? If you are ordering blanks you must have a door key and ignition key that work? The key expert on Fordbarn is 32phil. PM him and he will give you the correct answer. He can also make the correctly shaped keys for your car. Keep us posted

Door and ignition keys were "keyed" the same ( same code #) The small round key was used I believe up until 1934. There is also a "short" round key and a "long" round key. I just bought 2 new short round keys this weekend at the Rhinebeck Nationals ...I paid $10 each (ouch !) All the different shaped blanks will work, just the heads were shaped differently. Many of the new blanks sold today are lighter than the original keys. The original blanks are thicker and fit more tightly in the cutter.
