Decided against Tires.....what about this idea?
I decided against original bias ply black wall tires and would like to go with the new American Classic white wall Radial tires.
Is anyone running the radials? What are your thoughts on looks and performance? |

Do a SEARCH as this has been discussed countless times. Any NEW tire will be good, bias or radial.
Many positive reports on the American Classic's. Paul in CT |

Discussed in depth on other threads. Search for American Classics. I will say that I installed a set on 19 inch whitewalls on my car recently and like them. I use regular innertubes but others recommend innertubes approved for radial tire.

Personally, I'd go for the radials with whites.

When I read the title, I was expecting to see some novel idea about replacement tires, like plywood or something along those lines! LOL Considering the current supplier issues. "Decided against Tires....." !

There are cars that whitewalls are appropriate, most would look better with black walls IMO. Opinions are varied.

Re: Decided against Tires.....what about this idea?
I respect your opinion on black walls and I know they were original to the Model A. The problem to me is that White Walls make the Model A pop and if Henry was not so cheep they would have been original equipment in my opinion. To each there own.

Re: Decided against Tires.....what about this idea?
As you know, the sidewalls on radials flex more than bias ply tires. One of the concerns is over heating the tubes because of the increased flexing. I just got back from a Christmas lunch for my HCCA club yesterday (one hour at 55-60 mph) and felt the sidewalls. I have a heavy 1930 Fordor with a trunk full of tools and spare parts in the back. My rear tires wear more than the front because they carry more weight. When I got back the rears were warm to the touch and the front tires were just above room temperature.
I have pumped up all four tires (American Classic) to 40 psi and the sidewalls are still flexing like radials do. I am going to pump up the rears to 45 psi. The 35 psi that Ford recommended for the tires was based on bias ply tires. In my opinion the radials should have more pressure. The goal for me is to have the radials perform like radials but not have them overheat or wear too rapidly. So I am looking for the right pressure to reach that goal.
