8CM camshaft
Anyone running an 8CM camshaft in an 8BA or thoughts on the idea?

Re: 8CM camshaft
It is considered to be one of the best stock grinds. Smooth idle and great torque. If it has new specs, it has about .030" more lift than the 8BA cam of the period and ~10 degrees more duration.

Re: 8CM camshaft
These are the exact reasons I decided to keep the stock cam in my Mercury engine instead of installing an aftermarket cam. I have a relatively heavy car ('51 Ford) so the Merc cam seems to an all around better choice. I also second checking out the Tilden site. It has a lot of good information.

Re: 8CM camshaft
If you find an 8CM cam, what should you expect to pay for it?

Re: 8CM camshaft
NOS 8CM cams are difficult to source. A regrind on a used one is an option. FoMoCo made a lot of EAB cams for replacements but not many 8CM ones. The EAB was made for the later valves but will work for the early ones too and is good for low end torque. It was made to work with the O-Matic transmissions and they needed the torque.

One of the lobes has a chip in it, but I'm certain a good cam grinder can fix it without any worry. PM if interested. |
