Front Leaf Spring 1941 Pickup
I'm not sure how many leaves should be in my 1941 pickup front spring. I have 10, but the Green Bible leads me to believe I should have 11. It looks like the 1940 had 10. Would it make much difference?

If you are just missing the small top leaf don't worry about it.

It's common practice to remove spring leaves to soften the ride.

Re: Front Leaf Spring 1941 Pickup
Henry was probably using up the remaining 1940 springs.
If it's only missing that top plate spring any difference between 10 and 11 leafs is not noteworthy and makes your truck look lower and nicer. Like the Beatles said. "Let it be". |

Re: Front Leaf Spring 1941 Pickup
1941 was a transition year so there may have been carry overs from 1940 on the early 1941 1/2 ton commercials. A new frame cross member was introduced for the use of either the V8 or the 226 in mid year sometime so suspension parts were likely all of the 11C variety by then.

Re: Front Leaf Spring 1941 Pickup
Yes, '41 was a transition year for the passenger car chassis. The '41 pick-up shared the carry-over '40 pick-up chassis in general, which was essentially a '40 and earlier passenger car chassis without the rear body mounts. That was the end of that '40-'41 pick-up chassis, as the '41, as well as the '42-on passenger cars used an entirely different chassis. Additionally, the '42 and later pick-ups used a completely different ladder chassis with completely different 4-spring suspension. DD

Re: Front Leaf Spring 1941 Pickup
As Coopman says, except the 41 pickup frame had a deeper front crossmember to accommodate the 6 cyl engine intro'd that year.
(I acknowledge the term "in general".) Mart. |

You're sharp mart, as always. You don't miss a lick. As you noted, I used the term "in general" for exactly the reason you point-out. Always a pleasure reading your comments, as your attention to details is always complete, well thought-out and spot-on!! DD

Re: Front Leaf Spring 1941 Pickup
The 4 cylinder used the same cross member as the as the 6 cylinder and the V-8 in the later 41's. My truck was previously a 4 cylinder and it has the original deep cross member. As I recall it was March of '41 when the 6 cylinder and the 4 cylinder came into production for the '41s.
