'32 Drive Shaft Lengths
I just read that there are different lengths of drive shafts for '32's. Is this correct? If so how can it be since the middle cross member is in th esame location regardless of engine. Or am I mistaken on that score?

Re: '32 Drive Shaft Lengths
The difference would be if its the early to mid which is like a Model A or the late .Ring and Pinons are totally different as are the driveshafts. In 33-34 the 4 cyl and V8 had different length driveshafts.

There is a lot of info on the Barn concerning this. Use the Search function to find it and a ton of stuff will come up including interchanges year to year, exact lengths etc.

With respect, the late 18-prefix axle drive shaft is not the same length as the early/mid-year B-prefix axle drive shaft. The B shaft extends all the way through the pinion gear into the differential housing whereas the 18 shaft end at the coupling with the pinion gear shaft forward of the differential housing. I don't have exact measurements handy, but from the above it is pretty clear that the two '32 drive shafts are significantly different in overall length. |

Of course you are right. I was thinking of the complete assembly of the rear end including torque tube. What I was trying to convey is that the front end of the driveshaft is at the same location. Now for a trivia question, wasn't there a small dimension change somewhere along the line? Charlie Stephens |

Re: '32 Drive Shaft Lengths
Charlie,
That's a good question, but a good answer is perhaps elusive as an evident error exists on the original engineering drawings for the dimensions of both the B and 18 torque tubes and drive shafts as discussed on one of the earlier threads cited above. (Or maybe the reader [me] misread the drawings.) One of these days I will have to go back to the BFRC and find out if it was them or me. I seem to recall something about the B driveshaft being shortened a small fraction, but I'm away from my car stuff so cannot verify that. Last edited by DavidG; 04-17-2017 at 04:59 PM. |
