1946 merc steering box
i am working on my 46 merc steering box and have a few questions.i have never drove the car so don't know the condition of the steering box (play in wheel).the steering box is apart and found a small pitting on the worm gear.will this have any effect on the steering performance ? the roller gear looks to be smooth and in good shape.the steering sector shaft fits tight in its bushings but the upper and lower bearings look to be replaced, upper and lower cup look good and the sector seal needs to be replaced.the ford part #'s for the bearings and cups are, upper and lower roller bearing #68-3571A.
bearing upper cup#B-3552,lower cup#8A3553and sector shaft seal #48-3591. i am looking for the TIMKEN numbers of these parts.con anybody help i will try posting pictures of worn and rooler |
