1950 Ford ...."Bubba to the rescue!"
Hello All...
I had a problem with my 1950 Ford (original V-8) not running smoothly. I was experiencing a loss of power under acceleration when going through the gears. I replaced the distributor cap & rotor first (the old one had the "button" under the coil post missing!). It ran a little better...but still not right. I then replaced the plugs...although it ran a little better...still not right. Next, I replaced the points, condenser & checked timing....again it ran a little smoother, but still a loss of power under acceleration. After thinking about it for a while (couple of days!), I am now thinking it might be a vacuum leak in the vacuum advance unit (can). I pm'd Jim Linder at Bubba's Ignition and explained my problem. In a couple of days I found a package sitting at my front door (UPS). In "Bubba fashion", he had shipped a new vacuum advance unit without me ordering or paying! Well, 30 minutes later I had installed it and test drove the car. It now runs like a new car! I pm'd Jim and explained to him that the engine runs great and asked him how much I owed him. Again, in "Bubba fashion" he told me to call Mike at Third Gen Automotive and have them ship a replacement to him. Didn't ask for s&h or anything! I'll catch up with him in Auburn, IN (Central National Meet) and we'll enjoy a "pop" or two! Thanks Bubba! Pat |

Pat, this is what makes those that support us and Jim in particular, so great. We all have had those "frustrating" engine running problems....and when the solution arrives, it don't get no better!!!

That's all they have; no mechanical advance at all. It's not like a regular advance canister (like on an SBC) though. It works differently.
