Front Brake Hub/Drum Question
I have a brake drum/hub and another hub that look strange. I have looked through the JS and the Service Bulletins and cannot find an answer.
The regular hub is about an inch+ thick radially where the inner bearing is. The other hub is about 3/8 inch thick in the same place. The hub/drum has a grease collar?? around the bearing area. I pried it off with an old brake adjusting too. It looks like the collar that they put around a dog's neck to keep it from chewing it's tail. Is anyone familiar with this? Vic |

Re: Front Brake Hub/Drum Question
Do you have the shield on either right or left on the stationary (backing plate) part? This is round, bolts to the backing plate using the bolts that hold the backing plates to the spindles, and shows as part no. 33 in the following diagram.

Nothing to do with the backing plates. Picture shows the hub and the left side of the picture shows the "grease baffle". I don't see anything like this on Snyder's. As for judging - you cannot see any of this without taking the front hub off. Vic |

(many have trouble with grease "drooling" down the inside of the hub and making its way between the hub and the brake drum itself. We entertained exactly this issue perhaps two months ago for an inquirer.) Joe K

Joe
The part is 7/16 in deep and 4 7/16 in OD. It just fits inside Snyder's part 33. When I took everything apart I did not notice the collar. Part 33 was on the backing plate. I need to look again for the previous thread. "hub" and "front" brings up 20 pages but not what I was looking for. Vic |

Re: Front Brake Hub/Drum Question
The hub in the middle of your photo is a front 1928 hub.

Re: Front Brake Hub/Drum Question
The hub/drum on the left is early 28, later style is on the right.
