Default 1/2 @$$ fix

Started on the brakes on my coupe yesterday. Upon getting a look after removing the first drum, I was optimistic that maybe everything was going to be in pretty good shape as the shoes and e-brake assembly looked almost new and all the cotter pins looked shiny and new. That only lasted until I started taking things apart. The other three sets of shoes were pretty much shot. All four drums were past max diameter and badly grooved. The adjusting wedges were all ate up, and most everything else was gummed up and wore out. Whoever was in there last just pieced things together, a few new parts and a lot of wore out parts. However all four brake assemblies had new cotter pins. LOL All parts for a total rebuild will be ordered on Tuesday!! HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone

Send everything to Randy Gross. He will fix you up like brand new at a reasonable price and in less time than it takes to even think about it.

Yeah. I had to go through the brakes on mine too. It was expensive but I feel a lot better about driving it around now.

Andy hooked me up with 4 drums, shoes and e-brake bands. He took the hubs out of the old drums and swedged them onto his new drums. He also checked each shoe to the drums to ensure they had the correct arching ... and ALL while I waited.

VERY nice guy and his dads collection of old Pep Boys stuff is nothing short of AMAZING!

Regards
Bill

You can drop over $1500 in brakes by farming it out, professional labor yields professional results,no doubt, but providing your own labor saves some coin.Use brake energizer kits, they help to avoid the three wheel braking your seeing.

http://www.flatheadted.com/

by using energizers or 'floaters' the brake shoe self centers in the drum and equalizes the brake application.

I recently did the same and Randy Gross did me well with new drums! I am feeling much safer now!

I hope those cotter keys were U.S. Made. Boy, without new cotter keys you are screwed. Just think how good it’s going to feel when those brakes are correct and that you did it.

Just had him do mine a month ago. I "waited" at the Irwindale Mooneyes show for a couple hours. Came back and my brakes were done. Installed them last week.

A heck of a bargain.
