Default Sound deadener

Hi All,
Just putting sound deadener (Fatmat) in my 57 Ford. Is it a good idea to do the floor of the trunk as well, or is the factory mat good enough?
Thanks in advance.

I've not used Fatmat, but I've used other other products including Dynamat, industrial products, and lead impregnated rubber (that was in a motor home). The more you isolate the quieter it is. It's not just the sound, those products also dampen the "drumming" or sympathetic vibrations. If you've got enough of it do the trunk and the (maybe over a plywood barrier) between the back seat and the car, you'll really see a difference.

Unless you've got a sub roofer back there, then it might even annoy you.

I've been prepping my '65 Thunderbird to reinstall the refreshed or replaced interior components and, eventually, the type of trunk panel kit that would've come from the factory. There was definitely some sort of sound deadening material placed on the surface of the trunk when the car was made...a pain to get off, though some of it had peeled off over the years. I will definitely be replacing it with new sound deadening. I bought some lightweight stuff, but I'm thinking it may not be sufficient so I may go with heavier stuff like what came from the factory.

Once I got that far I just continued. You have everything ( tools and coverups ) out and likely a surplus of material.

Any large panels that act like a drum and small spaces like engine compartments and wheel houses are important. When Lincoln went to unibody in the 60's I think they had to add around 300lbs of sound deadener. On your 57 it may do the most good to separate the luggage compartment from the passenger compartment behind the rear seat and wheel wells.

I would add to the trunk as well. Not a third but I removed it from the trunk of my mustang to replace some items and drove it without It reinstalled and it’s a lot louder without it.
