54-56 Ford front crossmember differences
Hi everyone,
Back with another question. What is the differences in the 54 Ford front cross member vs 55-56? I have read lots of differences and have also read its just the plate in the top center that can be traded with the original. I also found a copy of the Goodell paper that says they are the same. Thanks for you help Steve |

Re: 54-56 Ford front crossmember differences
I don't know if they are the same but if you find out they are, I have all the dimensions for building a new one. I got these sayingthat the dimensions are for a 54 from some 54 people.

Re: 54-56 Ford front crossmember differences
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the response. My son has a 54 and we bought one (cross member) that the man is pretty sure is out of a 54 but possibly could be from a 55 but before we cut his out I want to find out the difference. The man I bought it from thought that just that center bracket for the rad etc is the only difference. Thanks |

Re: 54-56 Ford front crossmember differences
I don't read that flyer as saying they are all the same. It lists several cars in separate groupings, and the pic is labeled 55-56.
I read that as several crossmember models are available, but just one is pictured. |

Thanks for your response. Yes I agree as I posted in my 2nd post they say shown, surely someone can tell us how to tell the difference. I have been told its just the center mount but I cant see the differences by photos. Thanks Steve |

Re: 54-56 Ford front crossmember differences
Does anyone have the plans/blueprint for a 56 front crossmember? My friend can build himself one, IF he has a print...so I'm on here looking for it.

You all look but I don't think its enough info to tell the difference. Do you all see the difference?
Thanks |

Re: 54-56 Ford front crossmember differences
Well after studying the 2 pictures side by side looks like the 54 frame is 3" tall and the 55/56 is only 2 3/8" tall at the cross member if the figures are correct?
Thanks |

Re: 54-56 Ford front crossmember differences
Yes you are right, I was looking wrong. So I guess the big difference is the 54 is 3" tall (frame height) vs the 55/56 that is only 2 13/16" tall? Also looks like the 54 is 3 5/8" wide on top and the 55/56 is only 2 3/8" wide on top. Looks like the spacing holes for the control arm is the same. Well with everyone's help we are slowly figuring out the differences.
Thanks |
