Default Do you ever get the look?

Got a call from a guy I work with, there was a good Ford 9 inch at the local transfer site. Needless to say when I got home with it in the back of the wife's truck yesterday afternoon, I got the Look.
You all know it, It doesn't matter how rare it is, or how long you've been searching for that much needed part.
I got "The Look" last year when I brought home a trailer full of Flatheads.
I don't think she will ever understand.

Some wives just don't understand. I'm one of the lucky ones and she never questions my buys or motives after 36 years with her. Guess I'll keep her.

Last week I found 3 flathead motors, 2 rear ends, an engine run test stand, extra carbs, dizzy, starter motor, etc. He quoted a price, and I got the look as I reached for my wallet. You dont have to be crazy to by all this stuff but it sure helps. Dan

Oh I get the look from my wife. I get it from my friends too. Running out of places to stash my cars!

You’re not a true Ford V8 guy until you have Ford parts under your bed.

Yes, but it normally leads to something else. My wife loves old cars and understands me. She quit even asking years ago and just loves my smile when I find "that" part. I think I'll keep her. Chrome and glass stay under the bed until installed.

My late wife Alice actually encouraged my worst tendencies...I would be walking away from some insanely expensive '32 widget shaking my head, and she would say something like "you've been looking for that since you were 14, and we haven't seen another in the last 938 fleamarkets, you go secure the thing while I go find the ATM..."
She was a keeper for sure!

Early V8 budgeting: People fed, pets fed, house secured from bank and government. The rest is for deuce parts!

My wife has had the look so long her face has froze that way, although I probably will never get accustom to looking at it!

I was visiting a friend and he said he had a Howard M14 cam under his bed. I laughed and he left the room returning with something wrapped up in a 1956 newspaper. Yup, it was a Howard M14 cam. His wife rolled her eyes.

I secured a decent functional reverse lock out switch for a Borg Warner/Mercury overdrive transmission a few weeks ago. I'd been looking for one for a while since the country was pretty much scoured of them back in the 60s. My wife was tickled pink but not as much that I found a little piece of near unobtainium but more that I would have more time for honey doos since I don't have to spend as much time searching the internet and local swap meets.

Mine enjoys this hobby as much as I do. I rarely get "the Look", the "Hairy eyeball" or any of that.

Alice's greatest exploit: We heard a drunken biker type at a show ranting about his friend's perfect bodied B roadster, and all the people he had to chase away every time he opened his garage door. Ho-hum, shaky rumor, car not for sale...I wandered away.
Afterwards, we stopped at a diner for lunch and Alice excused herself...and disappeared for an hour!
When she reappeared, she informed me that she had bought me a deuce roadster over the phone, then she went to work on her salad...
When I scraped myself off the floor, I got the story! She had taken the partial name and an address of "Near Allentown" and spent an hour on the pay phone talking with every information operator in Eastern Pennsylvania, hunted down the right guy, and bought the roadster over the phone! Yes, the body was perfect. A car that had been pulled off the road as a collctor's item in about 1952...
Wonder Woman. She was nearly blind and severely handicapped, all of which completely failed to slow her down...

She does not go into the car church in the yard. I buy all of my stuff with kids money from side jobs and shuffling. I also have big feet!

I don't see how you guys can live with a woman that doesn't like old cars. But then, that might explain why I am divorced...

Last year I helped my 80-year old neighbor bring home a flathead that came out of a restored ‘46 Woody that was being contaminated with a small block Chevy. I had to sit by the phone waiting for the call that his wife had gone to the grocery store. We had 45 minutes to go buy the engine, drag it out of a barn, roll it up hill a hundred yards on a dolly, load it on my car trailer, drive back to his house, offload it with his tractor, close the garage door and get my truck and trailer out of there before she returned home and suspected we had been up to no-good. It was like an episode of Mission Impossible, we pulled it off with about two-minutes to spare. Apparently "the look" is even more scary on an 80-year-old lady. I asked what's the big deal you can afford it? He said, I don’t want to explain to her why I need another flathead when I already have a garage full of them.
