Re: Convertible top pump
Thanks Grumpy. Flathead48, the valve assembly on the OEM style hydraulic pumps can be rebuilt however, if the valve body is pitted (resulting from brake fluid retaining moisture over time) you may not be able to prime the pump to work in both directions. This is a problem we ran into when rebuilding the top pump on our '47 Convertible. If you rebuild the valve assembly, and still can't get it to prime for both up and down movement, and you are not building your car "as original", you could do what I did, install a late model Mustang top motor under the back seat, with a toggle switch under the dash. You could even leave the OEM pump in the car so it looks stock. Hope this helps.

Re: Convertible top pump
Thanks Vic, I been using ATF in the unit, worked could but removed everything to paint. The motor runs when the valve moves in both direction but no fluid moves. Thanks again. My 48 is still 6 volt.

Re: Convertible top pump
ATF is what I use as well. You might just have to disassemble everything and clean out the valve body and pick up tube...
